Denny Announces Moser Staying

I guess I just don't see his mistakes as being caused by having to do it all. How does that explain not seeing open WRs or making terrible throws when guys were open? Almost all the OU analysts, even the total homers, agree that the film showed a lot of times when the pocket was clean, the primary read was open, and he simply didn't throw it to him.
I’m not excusing that but we had no run game. No TEs. Only 1 real WR threat. Our entire offense was mateer. That takes a toll and makes everything harder on the QB. Yes he made bad reads and missed some throws. All of that needs to improve. He also had to look at high safeties every play because we had no run game, making it more difficult to get the ball to that one WR.

He’s never going to be an elite QB but he doesn’t have to be to make the offense good enough to win. He just has to eliminate the dumb plays and take what the defense is giving us. He will have more help at WR and TE and we will have a much better run game. If you don’t understand how that helps the QB, thats your problem.

Mateer showed an arm just above a wishbone QB of the Switzer era. His only plus was he was better than Jackson Arnold for whatever that is worth.

Stop.

2024 Offense (Arnold) - Ranked 95th in offensive efficiency (ESPN)
2025 Offense (Mateer) - Ranked 59th in offensive efficiency (ESPN)

Neither are good (enough) but that's a pretty healthy difference.

His grip strength was affected all year long. You could see the ball sail out of his hand after the injury on any throw that required oomph. I dont care if they said he was 'healthy', he clearly wasnt.

Imo I think that's his mechanics, or lack thereof.. well see this year, unless a new slate of excuses get generated next year

I dont think so. His mechanics arent great, but there was a noticable difference after the injury.

I still haven’t heard or seen anyone offer an explanation for him not seeing/throwing to wide open guys who were the first read.

And his mechanics are definitely an issue. I mean, unless you are an absolute freak, throwing sidearm while jumping (sometimes jumping backwards) in a clean pocket isn’t going to work, especially when you aren’t a tall QB.

All true, but i could see the nose of the ball rise on him which is even worse accuracey wise when throwing from the side arm angle, which made the ball sail on him.
