maybe he did see the open guys but wasn't confident because of his injuries
Posted like a guy who still is trying to hype up your (alleged) college career. We get it. You were on the JV crew team at the local JUCO, till you left because you had a falling out with the coach since you were never actually chosen to participate in any of the competitions. All that practice time but no glory.Spoken like a true athlete that’s never had an injury and then played through it. Sit the **** down you middle school PE coach
Denny is not skipping over that. The money has to be there to get the right coach that attracts the talent to even come. They want proof the financial support is actually going to be there and resources aren't going to have to be fought for. Look at Syracuse, they lost out on the USF coach, who grew up a Syracuse fan fwiw, and he's deciding between staying at USF or going to Providence. It's why the Josh Schertz signed an extension with Saint Louis because there's not a better job out there to go to that has the resources.Part of having the right resources is having the right coach. Having a coach that players want to play for. Having a coach that can attract talent. Denny seems to be skipping over that particular resource.

So resources to compete at a level to where it's worth leaving for and not be stuck in the middle of the pack, I don't think there's one that is worth leaving for where he could run things back where he is now and knows he can win like he already is doing.Surely you don't believe that? That there is NO job available that has better resources than St. Louis?
Providence and Syracuse are both capable of producing resources that can win more than USF and St Louis. As is Kansas State (already filled) and a number of other programs that have or will have openings this offseason. I think USF and St Louis are at about where their ceilings are currently. So resources to compete at a level to where it's worth leaving for and not be stuck in the middle of the pack, I don't think there's one that is worth leaving for where he could run things back where he is now and knows he can win like he already is doing.
Syracuse just had the job turned down by Hodgson because NIL isn't where it needs to be to compete in the ACC.Providence and Syracuse are both capable of producing resources that can win more than USF and St Louis. Yeah, I see second-tier ACC jobs (basically outside of the likely BIG/SEC targets - UNC, UVA, Duke) as not a great intermediate term move for an up & coming coach especially if you can wait another cycle.Syracuse just had the job turned down by Hodgson because NIL isn't where it needs to be to compete in the ACC.
I'm not saying it is a perfect job, but Syracuse does have more resources than South Florida - and a much higher ceiling. Hodgson likely believes he can hold out for a better job and why wouldn't he? He's only been at USF one year and probably doesn't feel like he needs to jump ship just yet.Syracuse just had the job turned down by Hodgson because NIL isn't where it needs to be to compete in the ACC.
To compete in the ACC though, Syracuse is a middle of the pack job now. The guy grew up in Buffalo, NY and a Syracuse fan and has family still up there. Turning down that job knowing those things, says a lot about the Syracuse job. These coaches aren't going to leave where they are at, where they are winning, to go somewhere with lofty expectations and not enough to compete for their own conference then get fired after 2 or 3 years.I'm not saying it is a perfect job, but Syracuse does have more resources than South Florida - and a much higher ceiling. Goodman jumped the gun on reporting supposedly. Trying to be the first.I'm not saying it is a perfect job, but Syracuse does have more resources than South Florida - and a much higher ceiling. Tubbs gained advantage because he was among the first to make extensive use of JUCO players if not the first. Eventually he lost that edge because everyone began doing it.
i also think back to when OU finished second for Larry Johnson .. OU would have won it all with himThat second sentence is the one disagreement I had with your post. Coach Tubbs never lost that edge with JUCOs and Coach Sampson built off what Tubbs started. The issue at the end of Tubbs career was that the academic standards changed at OU (after they hired Thomas Hill Sr) and a lot of those players were no longer eligible. Had the standards not changed, OU would have gone into the 1990-91 season as the #2 ranked school (behind only UNLV), but wound up playing in the NIT. It was the beginning of the end of the Billy Tubbs era.
It's crazy for us to think that Providence is a better job than Syracuse, but it is right now in the new era. Providence doesn't have football and its NIL is better funded relative to the Big East than Syracuse is in the ACC. Rumor is that Hodgson is going to take Providence. To compete in the ACC though, Syracuse is a middle of the pack job now. Yeah, I saw a USF insider just saying they expect him to take the Providence job. Just better resources for the conference they play in.It's crazy for us to think that Providence is a better job than Syracuse, but it is right now in the new era. He's another coach we could have had last year had we fired Porter.
Legally paid players (NIL) changed everything.
Is it? At USF you have to win the conference. At Cuse it's similar to OU, win 20 games and finish within a game or so of .500 in the conference. Cuse doesn't have the resources to do that? The resource comment is relative to the conference. Of course cuse has more resources than usf. However, given the resources at each respective program, it is much easier to win at USF than cuse rn.
