Did you think this team would win 20 games this year?

I think there may have been a thread or a poll asking how many wins posters expected us to win.

I thought this was a team that should/could win 20 games and after our start I thought I had underestimated the team, then after the bottom fell out I thought I may have over valued them.

I'm happy to see these SRs go out with a least a win in the NCAAs (if not a huge upset of Va)

I was expecting a ceiling of .500 upon first glance of our schedule. Absolutely masterful job of coaching to get 20 wins out of this group imo.

No. Recent seasons have lowered my expectations for the Oklahoma basketball program. Getting to the NCAAs and winning 20 games should be celebrated as a big step forward. So happy with the happy ending to the 2019 season. So happy for the seniors.

Boomer!

This has come up a lot recently.....our fans' expectations before the season started. About a month ago I went back and checked the old posts. Surprising, there weren't many fans willing to go out and give any prediction. Seems weird that so many now are claiming they were expecting doom and gloom. If that we the case, it was certainly something that not many were willing to post.

I don't know about the rest, but I do not post everything that I think.

But I do seem post too often. :D

I think I would have picked our conf record at about where we finished. No way I thought we would only lose 1 out of conference at this point.

lol

My post wasn't directed at anybody specifically. I was actually surprised when I went back looking for predictions and stuff, b/c there simply weren't many. Even in the thread about predictions/expectations. I was just pointing out that there weren't many people publicly stating that they thought'd we be as bad as some are suggesting. So by them saying that, it's an exaggerating of something that simply didn't happen.

I could be wrong, but I think I predicted in the 19/20 win range. I believe I had us 10-3 in non-con and 9-9 in conference....with an additional win some time in the post-season.

I don't know if I ever posted official predictions, but I thought this team was gonna be bad. Real bad. 7-12 is about what I expected from conference play, but 13-1 OOC...no way. Did not see that coming.

I know. I was just "busting your chops" a bit, albeit unintentionally.

I agree with your point, as I do not remember a ton of folks predicting such low expectations entering the season. In particular, I do not recall many folks predicting less than a 40% winning percentage in the conference.

I know I predicted they'd be a tournament team somewhere in the 6-11 seed range, that's they'd be at least .500 in conference, and that they'd be better than last year's team. 2 out of 3 ain't bad. I'm guessing if I thought they'd win at least 9 conference games then I thought they'd win at least 20 overall but I don't remember if I made this prediction or not.

I'll also add that for me, it isn't where we ended up that is disappointing, but how we got there. The team was all over the place this season, and that is a microcosm of the last 3 seasons. Without consistency, it's nearly impossible to "build the program", and I think that is something a lot of us want. A program that isn't constantly dipping down to being a game or two either side of the bubble as much as we have been. This should be our floor unless something really bad happens (terrible injuries, etc). The end result of this season isn't terribly different than I would have predicted. But the road we took to get there was a LOT shakier than I think it should have been.

I thought before the season a bubble team was all that could be expected. By late December it appeared the grad transfers were going to push this team to 20 wins easily but of course that was fools gold, my bad.

I didn't expect 12/1 non conf...just like I didnt expect 7/11 conf..

Overall I thought 18/19 wins...

Doesn’t matter how you thought OU’d get there but 20 wins & 2nd round is good for the program.

I didn't predict a record, as I went back thru my old posts.

I remember seeing we were picked 8th in the preseason conference coaches poll and thought "no way, we will be much better than that". I expected we would be in the 3rd to 5th range. I would guess that would equate to over 20 wins.

After the non-con, I thought 25 or 26 was possible and maybe likely.

It's just hard for me to think "we are an 8th place team in the big 12 and will be lucky to win 17 games". I'm not conditioned to think like that as most of my life we have won 20 games and a large number of years that was easy.

OU won 20 games with a much tougher schedule than it usually has.
