FAIRFAX, Va. – First-year head coach Nyla Milleson completed her staff with the addition of Dionnah Jackson as an assistant coach for women’s basketball. Jackson has spent the past three seasons at Southeast Missouri State in the same capacity.
“Dionnah is a great addition to the women’s basketball program,” said Milleson. “Her experience as a student-athlete at a strong BCS school helped her reach a goal of playing professionally. She will be able to develop strong relationships with the players with her energetic personality and experience as both a player and coach.”
Working primarily with the Redhawks’ offense and guards, Jackson helped tutor freshman guard Kara Wright to the Ohio Valley Conference All-Newcomer team last season. The honor marked the first all-conference honor for a Redhawk since 2008-09. In 2011-12, Jackson tutored point guard Bianca Beck to an overseas professional contract.
A four-year letterwinner at the University of Oklahoma, Jackson broke into the top-10 in 17 of Oklahoma’s 22 all-time record lists. Jackson was an honorable mention All-American selection and Wade & Naismith National Player of the Year finalist her senior year at Oklahoma. To cap her senior season, Jackson was named to the All-Big 12 first team after garnering second team honors her junior and sophomore seasons.
Additionally as a junior, she was named the Big 12 Tournament’s Most Valuable Player after leading the Sooners to the second of two conference championships during her playing career. Jackson helped lead the Sooners to their first-ever Final Four appearance and runner-up for the NCAA Women’s National Title as a freshman.
After finishing a brilliant playing career, Jackson was selected in the First Round of the 2005 WNBA Draft by the Detroit Shock. She spent the 2007 season with the Chicago Sky, while also playing in Israel for the Maccabi Tel Kabir in Tel Aviv. During her professional career, Jackson also played for teams in Switzerland and Greece prior to Israel.
The St. Louis, Mo., native earned a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Oklahoma in 2005 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration.
