How will the other posters feel if OU DOESN'T make the NCAAs about retaining Lon?

Well it's like asking how I'll feel if I see the tooth fairy. Very surprised. But if it happens, I sure won't ignore the fact that I was wrong. And I'll acknowledge that it increases the pressure to get something done next season

Wow! 23? What a joke!

Do some of you not remember how many seasons OU had under Kelvin where we finished like 17-12 and barely got in the tournament with a 10 or 13 seed?!

I guess since Tech also lost to WV, they should maybe fire Beard too??

SonLon takes us to the final four d then has a below expectations year...but then has 2 straight seasons where we win about 20 games, still get in the tournament...yet you still want to fire him?? Even when he just signed a top 20 recruiting class!?

Would you guys rather have the weasel at LSU? A guy who obviously cheats...yet still thinks he should be able to coach.

No thanks.

Sampson’s last two years OU was 25-8 (3 seed) losing in the 2nd round to the 6 seed and followed that up going 20-9 (6 seed) (lost in the first round to the 11 seed). If Kruger did that, people would want him run out of town for under achieving in the tournament and yet a lot of guys on here are clamoring for Sampson to return.

Not to mention that a lot of folks have complained about the recruiting since the FF run for Kruger and how the program hasn’t “taken off”....Following two highly successful years after OU went 31-5 and 27-7 under Sampson they went 20-11 and didn’t make the tournament.

Funny how we forget some of those things and that having that type of success isn’t always a yearly thing for every program.

IF he wants to come back next year, I find it hard to believe that Kruger won’t be allowed too given the recruiting class he has coming in. As most know/remember, when Sampson left, the highly touted class he had coming in all but fell a part leaving Capel to start over from scratch. If Kruger left now, I would imagine a very similar situation depending on who was brought in as head coach.

Everyone had transfers and early pros.. hell luck at the big injuries this year... yet they can win.. we can't...

Yes OU did. You realize they are making the tournament? I wouldn't be defending another 20 loss season. The way a lot of people are acting it's as if we won't even be in the NIT.

Not too mention he runs a clean program in a time where the filth is getting found out.

Oh, don't worry, there is no way he won't be back. Thankfully Joe C is way too smart to do anything that silly. This is all just hypothetical message board stuff.

I would be curious if anyone can find out the last time s coach was fired after making the tournament two straight years and six of seven, unless a scandal was involved. My guess is never but that's just a guess.

Ive been on Lons butt all season. His substitutions and lack of calling timeouts during runs frustrate me. However he has a top 20 class coming in. If we let him go that class will fall apart. Also we i dont know who would we get to replace him. OU basketball isnt a prime job opportunity. Just look at the attendance at home games

Oh I know he won’t be and that’s not really what it’s about. It’s the fact that most programs go through ups and downs but I feel that some refuse to believe that.

I get that a lot of it has to do with the style as well. If you are old enough to remember all the Sampson teams, most of them were in your face type teams that dirtied the game up and didn’t take crap from no one. Few at this time apparently have forgotten however, that playing that style allows for most teams to stay in games and which is why OU lost many games to lower seeds under Sampson.

I think we can all agree that the one thing that for sure has been lacking under Kruger is a continuous flow of talented bigs that aren’t 6’8+ and 200 lbs. For some reason he has really fallen in love with that type of big and they just haven’t “grown” weight wise or have the attitude to really make an impact in this league. Having athletes are nice as well but find some that are bruisers as well man! :) IF he added a guy like that through a transfer this off season which he might, OU could be a force to deal with by the end of next season.

Clown post.

Kelvin won 20+ games 10 times in 12 seasons. 5 times he won 25+ games. Dude won 72% of his games at ou. Try again.

Lon is at 60% (.500 in league play), with buddy and trae...

Great coach. Scheduled weaker OOC, Big12 was weaker, regularly got bounced early in the tournament. Also you had no access to the program/practices, he was a jerk, & got the program in trouble.

If you'd told me when Kelvin was in Norman and catching grief constantly that he'd be the golden boy of many of those same posters now, I'd never have believed it. Heck, I don't think he'd have believed it either.

And if James' foot had been a couple of inches further back on that final shot last night and OU had won in OT, the results of this poll would likely be reversed if not more lopsided in favor of Coach Kruger. Maybe we could get CJ to play in stocking feet if we make the tourney.

It's worth remembering that a number of posters said that WVU was really coming on and they hoped we'd faced oswho in KC instead. Well, we lost as close a game as possible to that WVU team and tonight they beat the Big 12 co-champs more decisively than they beat us.

That’s all forgotten... lol

not by me. i thought we'd be horrible....

i would have taken the NCAA "no questions asked" at the beginning at the season....though i did really like us to be in the top half of the bracket in December....

i do think the last two februaries by Sooner cagers have earned fans some answers from Lon's subsequent squads; but, really, this was not supposed to be a good team....and as i recall preseason poll had WVU 3rd and Texas and TCU in the top half. sucks to be Shaka.

it's not where we want to be...fair enough.

Look, there's a "macro" view and a "micro" view.

The "macro" view is, "hey, we are a lock to go to the Dance! We are exceeding expectations! Most people thought we would be basement dwellers in the Big 12 this year, yay!"

The "micro" view is this: "The offense is stagnant! We get killed on the glass! We aren't any good defensively! Why does the other team seem to "out-tough" us and beat us to all the loose balls? Why are Reynolds and Freeman playing so much, the other team kills us when they're in there! These substitution patterns are terrible! Why can't McNeace get over his ankle injury and contribute? How is it that Christian James has disappeared during our biggest games? Why can't Lon seem to get good recruits?"

I'm more of a "micro" guy myself. I respond to the product I see on the court on a night-to-night basis.

Why does a non OU fan get to start a poll thread here to vent on the OU coach?

Haha... I helped start this board man!

Yep. Helped build it from a startup idea to the best OU basketball in the country at one time. Thebigabd is an OU fan. He just likes to create controversy and keep the board alive.

Lon should come back, I'm excited for the future of the program.

I hope he can find higher quality assistants. Not holding my breath on that though.

My biggest complaint about Lon is hiring his son.
