Does anyone else find it funny?

It's not like being better next year is a giant step. I mean, can it get much worse? lol

Seriously, when I think about what Osby and Goff will bring to a team that will only lose one senior next season, I see more size, athleticism and depth, and hopefully an improvement in the skill set over what our front court has to offer this season. In other words, I believe Osby and Goff will be a major upgrade when compared to every post player on our roster, except maybe Drew. For the record, I see Cam as a wing, not a post player.

If anyone disagrees that Osby will be an upgrade, check out this highlight video and then tell me if we have a player on our current roster (except for Cam) who is even close to his equal? If Romero was eligible this season, is there any doubt he would be starting? If you don't agree, which player on this year's team is capable of keeping him on the bench?

I'm confident I could make a similar case for Robert Goff, if I tried hard enough. The point is, OU will be better by virtue of the fact that our front court will be much improved with Goff and Osby on the floor. Good enough to compete for a Big 12 title? I don't think so, unless we sign a couple of players capable of upgrading our back court, namely a point guard and a scoring wing or two guard.

Also consider Pledger is 11 games into his sophomore season. We can't write his obituary yet. I think his progress is normal for a Sophomore, OU just doesn't have juniors and seniors to make his weaknesses less apparent.

Someone brought up the progress of Stacy King and if you look at Tony Crocker, Godbold, etc, they had the same progress. I remember looking at Quannas White going into his senior year and thinking he was a bust.

You can make a highlight video of just about anyone and make it good. The last 2 years can look like a final four teams if you go just by highlights. The late 90s OU teams can look like national title winners.

This may be partially true, but if you cannot watch that video and immediately see that Osby is more athletic than any big we have on our current roster then you are blind.

Last year when Marquise Carter emerged as a prospect, you were leading the charge, let's go get him. Well it turns out that Carter is not making any type of impact at Gonzaga.

EVERYONE wanted Marquise Carter.

So basically, if Jeff Capel left recruiting up to you, we'd be in a bigger hole than we are now.

Haha, well that is encouraging. At least Capel has been a better recruiter than thebigabd from ouhoops.com, lol. I bet Durant and Mcdonald are better than Early, Neysmith, Hardrick, Allen, and a bunch of other guys Capel has signed. And he is a D1 coach with a full network of professionals helping him evaluate and track prospects.

This thread isnt even about these players, but like every thread you show this bizarre obsession with following me around bringing up guys I (and others) thought OU should look at from years past.

This thread is about Robert Goff and Romero Osby, and once again you turned it into something else. This is actually the 3rd of 4th time you have tried to bring up players that I mentioned from years past. Its like you are giddy to follow me around and make every thread about some benchwarmer for Alabama and some clown for Western Kentucky, lol.

I couldn't make a highlight tape of Calvin Blair, Nick Thompson, or CJ Washington with all their years of ball. No slap at those guys, just how it is.

And I believe Ada's point wasn't to say "wow he has dunk highlights" but to say he's got an athleticism to him that no one on this roster has.

Exactly my point, DM.

A few days ago we were trying to remember if anyone on this team had even dunked the ball in a game this year. That was before Cam's two highlight reel alley-oop slams in back to back games. As I recall, the total was two in the first seven games.

Forget athleticism and skills, though. Depth alone in will be an improvement in our front court next year. I also think that Tyler will work hard in the off season to get stronger and be more of a factor off the bench. I'm impressed with his skill set and his potential. Thompson was not starter material from the get-go. He's a role player who will be just fine on a team with Fitz, Goff and Osby. He's just not what we needed with the front court we've got now.

One positive for Osby may be that things did not work out at Miss State. Perhaps he will work harder as a result of things not working out.

I'll believe it when I see it approach. I see nothing (besides a Cam Clark) that has that much upside. Maybe Neal since he is a taller kid who has some range. He could be one of those nice players a couple of years from now.

Capel really has to land a couple of very good players this year IMO or he is toast after next year.

That's pretty much the approach I have. I don't think Capel is a good recruiter because of that approach. His players for the most part haven't actually done much.

That we are putting all of our hopes of being better next year into a guy that averages 9 ppg in junior college (and is 3 years removed from high school) and a guy who averaged 4 ppg and 2 rpg at Mississippi State?

I mean, I believe in these guys too and have them penciled in as starters, but it is kinda funny that all of our hopes are with them for next season. Thread after thread, everyone points to Goff and Osby as big reasons why this team is going to get a lot better next year.

I don't know that we would be all that excited about them in a normal situation until they proved themselves. Or maybe we would? I dont know.

I'm putting hopes on us being better on our current players improving along with Goff and Osby..and even a few others joining our roster.

I don't understand why you would pencil in Goff as a starter. Fitzgerald will be a starter next year. He's averaging 16 points over the last 5 games along with 7.2 rebounds. His improvement from last year to this year is amazing. Clark will be much better. I don't understand the Pledger haters out there. And I expect to have better PG play. Newell and Blair should improve. Its obvious that Capel has to get a couple more guards on this roster. But other than that, I see us being much better. Rebounding should be better. And our defense should be better.

If you think Goff is going to start, then I don't know what to tell you. Osby, Clark and Fitz will be our frontcourt. If you're expecting Goff to be a scorer, than I don't know what to tell you...he's going to be an athletic presence off the bench to help defend the basket.

Exactly! Next year we want those guys you mentioned to carry the scoring load and some pg to get it to them.

I'm more worried about our guards next year. We're not going to the NCAAs, or even the NIT, with Blair and Pledger starting in the backcourt.

I hope Capel can upgrade those spots with Cezar Guerrero and or a couple of nice Juco finds in the late period. Gonna be tough at this point.

I wouldn't be suprised if they were recruiting the Eli Carter Kid as a SG.
