Does Capel get another year no matter what?

Is it a foregone conclusion that Capel gets another year, or will Joe C. be forced to make a move if we fire out a record like 9-21 or something like that? Personally I believe he gets another year no matter what but I think Joe C. probably has a limit for how low the program can sink before he has to do something.

Well he he signed a contract extension in 2008 that ran his current deal to 2014. In 2009 he signed a 7 year extension to that contract so it believe that would make it run to 2020. If that is the case i'm not sure we can fire him yet, depending on buy out clauses if there are any

Hopefully the contract extension was worded such that it's only valid as long as Blake griffin was a member of the team. Otherwise somebody should be in hot water.

They should have never offered the extension until capel proved he could win without BG.

I think hes got another year unless we go winless in the Big XII. Just too much money left out there for Joe to fire him. Plus, it will hurt his image as well.

I think it's the same as we all thought before the season started. I think he gets another year unless the program gets into trouble with the law or the NCAA or if the kids don't play hard.

After the UVA and Chaminade games, I don't think he survives the year if the guys continue to play that way for the duration of the season.

It really depends on HOW bad the team is... Maybe they get a few upsets? Maybe they surprise some people somehow. If those things happen, Capel will get another year.

If they get killed all the time and end up with 8-12 wins I don't know how you don't make a coaching change.

For everybody that is worried about buyout clauses, Capel(along with every other NCAA coach) has a clause in their contract that allows him to be let go without pay if it is found that a major infaction was committed during his time. This could likely play a factor.

To answer the OP question, he does not get another year.

He got an extra year to prove that he was better than last year. Not off to a good start on that. The record will be worse this year then last and we will be lucky to win a game in the Big 12.

Unless we showed improvement this was going to be Capel's last year. Everyone in the program knows it, he didn't bring in any big name assistants to replace the ones that left, promoted within. We aren't hitting the recruiting trail very hard. If OU loses 3 out of the next 4 expect the program to bascially shut down unitl the end of the year.

When Capel is let go I fully expect him to take shots at the fans, old assistants and lack of support for the program from the fans. He is a finger pointer and never takes the blame. The worst kind of leader. He has blamed the fans in the past and the student athletes over and over. I have never once heard him actually admit fault in anything.

Anyone that does not want Capel gone is crazy the guy has made a complete mess of a really good program. Last year was a complete joke and this year is even worse. The big problem now is that Capel has signed a bunch of spare ass recruits in this last class just to fill spots, most of his recruits could not even see the floor on most big12 teams and now we are stuck with them for two more years. All the JUCO's he signed should not have even been offered a ship. The high school kids have some talent.

I hope that Capel does not make it past this year he must go and we take the hit with the spares he has signed or let the new coach do a hard thing and let them go and pull some ships. We will be the complete joke of the big12 this year.
