Dominique Raney from PC has an offer from OSU

I'm afraid so. Hopefully things get better with the program and there will be less rude replies all the way around.

I wish you would go back to calling me bedtime like you did on OUI. It just seems weird for a 50something to be calling me bro. Suit yourself though.

I've borrowed "bro" from bounce. I only use it with him or certain posters who reply in much the same way as him.

Correction...I'm only 40. Scrybe is 50something...I would guess as he said he was old enough to be my dad. :ez-laugh:

I'm not going to lie, as long has he helps the kids find somewhere they can be successful, I don't really care if he pulls scholarships. College basketball is a buisness. If you hold on to players that won't put in the work or don't have the talent to win, then you will be looking for a new job.

Just ask Capel what having to many players like this will do for you. His entire fan base is calling for his head.

Holding onto players that won't put in the work or don't have the talent to win is a problem.

So is recruiting a bunch of them in the first place.

Coaches who are pulling a lot of scholarships are failing as a recruiter.

And coaches who lose because of their failures in recruiting end up fired.

There is a very fine line to walk when you start talking about pulling scholarships. That can come back to haunt you in more ways than one.

It becomes a damned if you do, damned if you don't sort of thing. Sean Sutton left so many open spots for Ford to fill, that he filled it with some filler, and he took some chances with some guys. On one hand, do you stick it out with guys who clearly aren't top level Big XII players for the sake of karma, recruiting futures, whatever reason you want to come up with and risk losing? Or do you cut bait with the players you don't think will help you win games and get to the tournament for guys that can, so you can keep your job?

I'll preface this by saying I think Ford is a good coach, but it seems to me his problems are almost entirely of his making.

He did a better job with Sean's team than he has with his own. He put together a bad, bad offensive team this season, through no fault but his own. If anyone can't play, it's the guys he brought in.

That's what I mean! He took some pretty weak players, and I think some of the reason he had to take so many was because of the defection of some of Sean's players before he got there. His recruiting hasn't been all that great to start off with, although I like his '10 and '11 classes.

So, does the guy have to work through his poor '09 class without letting guys go? Or can he dump some of them to get some better players?

So it was his fault that his starting point guard was lost to injury for the season?

Losing Fred Gulley for the year had a lot to do with OSU's offensive problems this year.

The guys he brought in "can play." Gulley, Olukemi, Dowell, and Brown have all shown they can get it done at a high level. The issue is that they are all freshmen and sophomores getting their first experience in Big 12 play.

It's easy to say that he did better with "Sean's team", because all of the major contributors that Sean recruited, save for Page, were experienced Big 12 players. Anderson, Eaton and Muenelo were all multi-year starters when Ford got them. He didn't get much out of Moses (consistently) until his junior and senior years.

Next year will be the first year that Ford has true juniors on the roster that he recruited as freshmen. Let's see how those guys look next year.

Back to Raney, I'd be interested to see what some of the insiders around here are saying about his dad. Is he still "Carl Henrying" the kid? I've heard that he sticks his nose into everything and that it could be an issue in the kid's recruitment. Is this still the case? Jennings? Parker? Sam?

He doesnt like Carl thats why he left athletes first, thats why most of the top players stopped playing for athletes first.

I'd say the jury is still very much out on Dowell, he's played a few nice games, that's it. Don't forget about Ray Penn, he's been anything but a productive player.

Olukemi has had his moments, but he's nothing more than a role player on a better team.

I like Markel Brown and think he'll be an all-conference player.

I like Ford, at least as much as a Sooner fan can like an OSU coach, i'm just not impressed with the talent he's brought in thus far. Time will tell I guess.
