Guys I have seen every game this year and I have heard, who knows how many times ,that Doolittle was last years Big 12 most improved player. If he was the most improved player last year then I don't want to see the last improved player or the Big 12 is as weak as they come, this guy is showing nothing this year. Last night he missed two dunks, couldn't hit the side of a barn and his defense or lack of only helped K State.

Lon needs to bench several of his starters and go with the young guys who want to at least give what they have.

Ok, a lot to digest here.

But hold your horses... Doolittle has shown a lot this year. He had a bad game, but other than Manek he basically gets no help. He is the leading scorer and rebounder. He plays really good defense too. The win against Mississippi State happened because Doolittle shut down a first team SEC player in Reggie Perry.

There are lots of things to upset about, but Doolittle isn't one of them in my opinion.

I'd normally agree with you, but his last 3 games (and 4 out of the last 5 games) have been atrocious. They've either lost because of him or won despite him. (Same things could be said of Reaves)

Maybe he'll turn it around, but Doolittle seems like a big head case to me, and those don't usually turn it around once things start heading south.

Odd. If your best player struggles... sometimes you lose.

Weird.

Doolittle is missing shots right now but he's not close to the problem. He's still getting & taking good looks, plays defense, & rebounds. OU has got to get more from the two point guards, I know they aren't the main scorers but they're not even getting to the lane and making plays.

Last night though if you get nothing from all 3 main scorers it's going to be bad.

If Doo is our best player, that explains a lot. He is far from a polished player. If his mid range jumper isn’t falling, he brings nothing else on offense. I wish Kruger would play Manek and Kuath at the same time. Really feel like our best scoring lineup would be Kuath, Manek, Reeves, Alondes, and Harmon. Think it’s time to send a message with some lineup changes. Bieniemy brings nothing on offense. Let Doo come off the bench and maybe bring some scoring punch. Encourage Hill to look for his shot a little more. Idk. This team is a frustrating watch anymore.

Bench the all conference player? Who is averaging 15pts, 9rbs, 2assts, 37% from 3 & is our 2nd best defender.

Man I know last night was bad, but good lord this a Skip Bayless reaction.

The "production lineup" would be:

Reaves - Williams - Doo - Manek - Kur

This puts your best scorer, your best shooter, your best driver, your best athletes, your best rebounder, your best defender, and your best shot blocker on the floor at the same time.

The negative is... it means Reaves is running point.

Probably also best to go with a 1-3-1 or 2-3 zone with this lineup.

Playing Doo at the 3 means he can't attack mismatches. The lane would be too clogged up & there's no way I'd want Reaves running the point. Also this is a bad defensive lineup.

Sure he can... you can create mismatches on offense through switches. Plus, the benefit of being a tweener is that he is either faster than a big guy, or bigger than a guard. He could expose that mismatch as well if he had a 6'2'' guy guarding him.

And why would the lane be clogged? You have to guard Manek, Doolittle, Reaves, and Williams away from the lane.

I'd run Reaves at the point. Why not? It means they'll have to run more because he's a decent enough facilitator in transition.

I'd also run zone, but it appears Lon may be prevented contractually or ethically from doing so.

Why would a team switch with that lineup? You switch because if you don't then quick guards can get into the lane easily, this lineup wouldn't have that. When Doo or another guard now drives everyone is out guarding someone, with this lineup Doo, Williams & Kur's guy can take an extra step in the lane to help.

Tweeners 95% of the time play up a position, not down. And again, this is a bad defensive lineup. I will say this lineup could be mixed in 5-10 minutes a game, especially if Harmon & Bienemy play like they did last nigh & you'd have to go zone. I just wouldn't have this lineup a lot because it's too easy to game plan against.

I would not want to run more with Reaves at the point. If you choose to run most of the time you aren't getting advantage numbers, you would do so because you're guys are really good 1v1 in transition & are great finishers.

I hear ya. That’s why I said idk. I just really like Kur in the lineup and Manek has to be out there. I agree Doo is one of our best, just feel like we almost need 3 guards out there to run the offense. Alondes is the best athlete and best driver, plus has an improving 3. Reeves makes things happen. But neither is a great point. I guess you could leave Doo and pull a guard. Idk? Just really frustrated. Plus, what we are currently throwing out there isnt really working. Something has to change.

Yeah I agree, I think it needs to be more on the guard front though. I think Kur is perfect at 12-20 minutes a game based on the opponent. None of our 5 guards are consistently good or even solid right now.

Alondes' issue is awareness and that will come from more xp. he needs more time. keep him out there longer.

Is it a bad defensive lineup if you are playing zone?
