that the Oregon State coach asks his players if a recruit will be a good teammate. Silly coach! Doesn't he know that's a stupid thing to do?

:facepalm

I seriously doubt that Geno allows his team to veto who he wants to sign. That might be a good idea if you are adding someone to a sorority but I don't think many college coaches would agree. What if Sherri's team would have vetoed Courtney?

She wasn't talking about Geno. She was talking about Oregon State, the Oregon State coach and team chemistry.

How you twist things, Norm! How does asking players for an opinion suddenly become VETO?

Nobody is saying veto but you. I bet Geno DOES ask his players if they think a player will be a good fit. I bet our players said that Courtney and Ashley would be good fits, also.

If the players say, "No", and the coach does not sign the player, what would you call it if not veto?

If you use that logic, I said the sun couldn't set until after 6:00 yesterday, it didn't, so I vetoed the Sun setting!!

That makes no sense at all!! If the coach was REQUIRED to follow the player's recommendation, that would be a veto, but no one has said that condition exists anywhere.

I seem to recall players saying that Sherri pays close attention to how her players respond to recruits when they visit.

It is just another input into the selection process. You may be suprised how many big time coaches ask the same question. If the player is Courtney, Whitney or Vegas you may not even ask but you are still going to try to land them.

With a Wyatt or Kellogg the players input may be the input that swings the decision one way or another.

Only a dumb coach would ingnore player input. A dumber one still would be those that would allow the players to make the final decision.

If the coach didn't plan to follow the team's advice, it would be stupid to ask their opinion!

If you will read the post above yours, you will find out why you are just wrong!

When a coach does their background work on a prospect, they should know that player very well. To allow players to vote on whether that player gets an offer makes no sense. I know for a fact that many coaches offer players BEFORE the recruit ever visits. That tells me that most do not allow players to vote up or down.

Norm, nobody but you has intimated that any coach anywhere has players vote on whether a prospect gets an offer.

Sherri must be poisoning these other coaches with her bad ideas!!!

:ez-roll:

If you can't get along off the court. You won't get along on it. No chemistry means no communication on the court, no trust, and no passing. Chemistry means everything to a team.

It truly puzzles me that some on a message board think they know everything about everybody else on the same board.

Some of us know exactly how this all works because we have been there.

Very, very few coaches think they can research a recruit and know everything about them. One form of gathering information is to ask the players how the recruit seemed to fit in during the visit. Only the most foolish coach would ignore that input in making a decision about that recruit.

I'm really surprised anyone would be surprised about that. But a few really lousy leaders think they are right 100% of the time and want only yes men around them. They are the really, really, really lousy leaders. Take a management class and investigate how often you are taught to just make all your own decisions without any input. That number will turn out to be NEVER.

And no one is advising you to take input so you can ignore it. the coach makes the final decision, but many get to put in input. No matter what mis-information has been posted on this board.
