DRob has been named a WNBA all-star! She leads the league in assists.

I knew she would make the team, she's been having a great season and I don't see her slowing down anytime soon.

Why did we become dependent upon DRob driving to the hoop in crunch time?

DRob had 4 other players on the court with her at OU just like she does at San Antonio. I don't recall her teammates at OU not catching her passes.

She has someone to pass to.

Looking at DRob's 4 seasons at OU and they top players in minutes played per season she had the following to pass to.

2010-11
Aaron Ellenberg
Whitney Hand
C. Roethlisberger
Morgan Hook
Joanna McFarland

2009-10
Nyeshia Stevenson
Whitney Hand
Amanda Thompson
Abi Olajuwan
C. Roethlisberger

2008-09
Courtney Paris
Ashley Paris
Nyeshia Stevenson
Whitney Hand
Amanda Thompson

2007-08
Courtney Paris
Ashley Paris
Amanda Thompson
Jenna Plumley

I agree that having better players like DRob has at SA definitely impacts her assist and turnover ratio. However from my perspective DRob did not protect the ball at Norman and took too many chances and was consistently too careless with the ball.

Except for her senior year when she was scoring option #1 and had three freshmen playing in Ellenberg, Hook and McFarland she had options of player with more than adequate hands. Coincidently her senior year with the freshmen she averaged fewer TOs per game than she did as a junior and sophomore with more experienced support behind her.

But there is no excuse for her best assist to turnover ratio at OU being 1.46 with CP, AP, NS, WH and AT as her quality options. Only WH was inexperienced and she may have had the best fundamentals of the lot.

The coaches at SA deserve a lot of credit for helping DRob become an all-star in the league.

2010-2011 is a case in point. On paper, that looks pretty good.

Ellenberger
Hand
Rothlisberger
Hook
McFarland

But, Hand only played in 23 games due to her injury. She shot 38.9%, 29.7% from three while scoring only 12.6. You aren't getting assists by tossing it to an injured player who can't shoot.

Carlee shot 38.2, 31.7% from three, while scoring 6.9.

Hook and Ellenberg are freshmen, Hook starting two games. Vegas shot well, 39.7% from three, but only 39.3 overall. She was the second leading scorer at 16.2. For those who love turnovers, she had 47 assists to 93 turnovers. Hook shot 37.8% (39.2 overall) from three and scored 6.6.

Joanna? Jo shot 46.1% from the field, (0 for 1 from three) and scored 5.3, starting 21 games.

Where are you going to get your assists?

Somehow my comment that DRob is a much better passer than she was in college has morphed into a discussion about her assists.

I think DRob did exactly what Sherri wanted her to do, create, score, and play great defense. Sherri was never very worried about turnovers and she wasn't worried about DRob's assist numbers.

At San Antonio, Dan Hughes made it clear turnovers will not be tolerated. DRob complied. I also think Dan wants her to be a more complete PG and part of that means finding open players when she is being defended well and again, DRob is complying.

Danielle has also had the opportunity to understudy one of the best point guards in the business in Becky Hammon. And now that Becky's out for the season, it's Danielle's time to shine.

Seems to me I identified DRob's senior year as a year of concern so no one is disputing that year being a difficult year for her. However she had only .20 more assist during the twin's senior season with Nyeshia, Whitney and Amanda as options three, four and five.
