OT: Football Talk

looks like he will be in Norman tomorrow .. and OU has some WR coming in at the same time and wednesday ..
Good. We need it. Just listened to the current pod and even Gabe seemed very depressed with how many targets we have missed on so far. Let’s hope that guys will start considering us more seriously if they know we have a top quarterback on board.

Saw the Scoop guys trying to drum up business by saying that today could be a big day for the Sooners. They acted as if multiple guys might commit. I know they signed the lower level WR. For those in the know: are any big names legitimately on the verge of committing?

2 WR and now the #1 portal player the QB and maybe more coming ..

Were deciding on breaking the bank for the WSU RT. He wants a lot.

Were also leading on some guys not in the portal yet. Don't ask me how we're accomplishing that..
Sorry man.
After your takes on Joe C and that OU is talking about cancelling non rev sports I take everything you say with a grain of salt

It was a good day all around Sooner Nation. I would like to get another couple of quality OL (if possible), another steady DL, and maybe another WR that can contribute in the rotation. I don't believe we can really evaluate anything until the late portal period is over in the spring. We will have a much better idea of where we stand come the beginning of fall camp. Then the weeping and gnashing of teeth can begin....lol.

Are we in on any good offensive players? Outside of Mateer, Brent seems to be assembling a Group of 5 roster in the SEC. Was listening to Gabe try to give his always-optimistic spin on the latest small school lineman and had to chuckle when he got to the part where he said how impressive it was seeing him move between left and right tackle from possession to possession … against Tennessee State. At this point, we don’t have a single lineman on the roster who would likely be considered to be even in the top half of the conference, and even that might be putting it kindly.

this is not remotely true
Who, right now, is top half of the conference? We had a revolving door all season on the line. I don’t want to hear about the two incoming freshmen since Brent and Bill probably won’t even start them and it takes time to develop at that position.

I think the line should be okay next year. Howland and Ozaeta both really started playing well the last few games of the year and should hold down the left side of the line. Everett was a commendable center once he got healthy. EPL and Nwaiwu will likely compete for the RG spot and the RT position will likely be decided between one of the Jakes, or one of the two transfers. I wouldn’t call that an elite OL, but it certainly will be on much more stable footing than we started this year on. Big difference in returning 4 starters vs none since the OL is heavily influenced by continuity

Hopefully it will also help having an OC who knows what we have and schemes based on that. Also, a skilled QB (hope we have that) can make “just OK” offensive lineman much less of a liability.

I think a healthy Sexton would be. He was so good as a freshman he was taking snaps away from a first rounder.

I’d take Ozaeta as a top half Guard going into next year.

Everett is a top half Center.

Howland is right on the verge, we’ll have to see how he progresses throughout the offseason. He transformed his body very well last offseason.
