That's just it, I don't think the things that made Capel a bad coach are things he didn't know. I think he made/makes choices to coach/recruit a certain way. He is making that choice, knowing the alternatives. He doesn't need to learn not to recruit talented players that have issues, he simply needs to not recruit them. He doesn't need to learn to not chase the top 5 recruits, he needs to make the conscious decision to be smart about it, cut his ties, and have good backup plans. He stated from day 1 he wanted to play like Duke. He wanted to turn the guys loose to do as they please on the court. He didn't want a structured offense. That is a conscious decision, even though most would agree that unless you always have the better talent (Duke, NC, UK, KU, UCONN), that is probably not a successful formula. He doesn't need to "learn" that being buddy-buddy with your players is probably a losing formula. He has to make the conscious decision to be more of a coach.
While I agree that Capel could, and probably will, improve on some of the x's and o's stuff, his biggest issues were conscious decisions that he was making. He has to let go of that if he ever gets another HC job at a school like OU. You cannot coach and recruit to OU like you do at Duke. It doesn't work.
This is just my opinion, of course.
