Ed Hightower

I didn't hate him until this game. OU guards got bump multiple times on the perimeter with no foul calls. Then the charge, just too many to even name.

Loved how he called the foul on TMG during the scramble for the loose ball he just kept pointing at him like some kid tattling on another to Mommy.

Wouldn't surprise me if the dude was crooked and shaves points here and there. Some of the calls were just outrageous.

That was exactly my thought.. He seeemed excited to call that one

He has been consistently bad for several years now.

For such a distinguished educator, he's a sorry excuse for a referee.

Hightower is crooked, he as screwed OU since the Tubbs years. In the late 80 and early 90's my father looked at all the games he officiated with OU and OU was something like 2-22 during that span, and OU had some really good teams. My father sent many letters to OU's ADs and coaches over the years and one time Kelvin listened after a really bad screw job by Hightower and got Joe C's attention. I am not sure what happened or what was said but Ed Hightower did fewer OU games and was a little better but still not equal for about 2 seasons.

Now he is back to his old ways. He put UT back in the game then OU got cold and lost it.

I can live with everything but his allowing texas to hit us on our shots. TMG didn't get to shoot more than once or twice without being hit on the elbow or body.

By the way, I'm a big proponent of hitting shooters defensively. Barnes has his kids do that until the officials start calling it. Particularly with your primary offensive option. Kelvin taught this as well. Hey, if you can get away with it -- it works.

Officiating aside, the reason we lost the game was we were rendered school girls on the boards. They dominated us exactly like KState did. It was so bad it was embarrassing. We couldn't even get defensive rebounds on free throws. We stand around and just watch people shoot and then jump. We haven't blocked anyone off the board in about 3 weeks.

The above notwithstanding, I thought we continued to play hard and are coming around. Apparently this team was a bigger project than we imagined. But, the kids haven't quit and Crocker is really leading this team like a senior should.

During the broadcast, Musselburger asked Knight what he thought of the call and there was nothing but silence for a few seconds. It was almost an uncomfortable silence. It was pretty obvious that Knight felt like we got screwed on the call. When Knight thinks that OU got screwed on a call, well I'd have to say we got screwed on the call. :fexas-logo:

I don't know about all of that, but I do know that I could call my buddy that I used to go to every OU game with from '85-'89 and simply mention the name "Hightower" and he'll erupt.

That guy was abysmal 20+ years ago and it appears nothing has changed.
