expectations? to field a team and get better as the year advances.
That criteria is extremely narrow. "NBA all-stars from the Big 12 in the last 45 years." You're narrowing the results to 1) NBA All-stars 2) the Big 12 3) The last 45 years.
How about NBA players that lasted at least 3 years in the league? How do we stack up to the Big 12 in that area and the rest of the NCAA? The fact that a large proportion of our players that have gone on to the NBA became all-stars doesn't mean we get more NBA-type players than other teams.
(I don't know the answer to the question, I just think it would be a more telling representation of potential NBA talent)
We have had 21 nba players all time, kansas 74. in order to be an all star, you first have to make the NBA
players that got 3 years + in the NBA
Kansas - 51
OU - 15, but trea will make it to year 3

45 years is cherry-picking, but it is a long, long, long, long time. The point should be pretty obvious. If we're the best at something (or tied for the best) over a nearly half-century of time, I'm having a difficult time to think there is a valid reason why it cannot continue.
Using "NBA all-stars" as your measuring stick instead of "NBA players" is also cherry-picking, but it's okay, no worries.
If we use NBA All-Stars, we're either #2 or #3 all-time in the conference, and if we're using NBA players in general, we're still in the top 5 all-time. Regardless of the metric, it is perfectly reasonable to have an expectation of it continuing since I was at least using a very large sample size.
If OU does not have an occasional NBA player on the roster, we're going to have trouble succeeding. We're just not going to have many years like 1990, 2002 or 2003 when we have a lot of success because of great college players who are a step below NBA talent.
I agree. I don't see any NBA players on this roster and I haven't examined every recruit we are in on but I haven't heard any NBA buzz around any of them. We will see.
In fairness, trae young was like the #20 player in the class, wasnt a whole lot of NBA buzz around him when he committed. Buddy was a 4 star with 0 nba buzz that developed into a NBA player. Blake was #16 and i could be wrong, but i dont remember a lot of NBA buzz around him until right before his sophomore year

So if we start out putrid and end up mildly terrible by the end of the year it's okay with you?
Confusing thread. Do we not want NBA players? Strange criteria IMO.
My goal: Make the NCAA tourney every year. Go deep every 4-5 years.
That’s it.
This is the standard. We are not elite but we are a damn good program, a top 25 program. That is historically what we have been so that is my expectation going forward. I can’t expect more than that until we start truly investing our time and money into this program like Kentucky and kansas fans.
-Top half of the conference nearly every year (80%+), with a realistic shot to win the conference every few years. There shouldn't be any games on the schedule that don't feel winnable.
-Make the Dance 80%+ of years, and be in Top half of the NCAA bracket at least every other year, with a squad that has the pieces to potentially make a deep run at least once every 3-4 years (thinking 4 seed or better).
-Post season tournament results are largely a crap shoot so I care more about positioning for those tournaments, which is in our control.
