Fears & the NBA Draft Projections

Saw someone post Moore’s vertical was 39. Not sure if that’s accurate since it’s kind of random dude but that’s obviously good. Makes it even more confusing that he seemed to struggle elevating this season.

They've been switching back and forth deceptively (mostly out of sloppiness but the league used it to prop up bronny's bumness last year) if it is a standing vert or not. Did it say standing vert?

This was not standing. It was max vert. I guess a guy from UNC blew away the field in both max and standing very.

Los ended up in the top 5 or 6 in overall shooting percentage from all the shooting drills.

PG Jeremiah Fears, Oklahoma

Height w/o shoes
: 6-2.5. Weight: 179.6. Wingspan: 6-5.25. Standing Reach: 8-2.5.

A lot of the talk surrouding Jeremiah Fears coming out of the measurment portion of the NBA Draft Combine surrounded his physical measurements, notably the height and weight. However, the shooting also told an intriguing story. While he was 19-30 on movement shooting, Fears was 7-27 from corner threes.

The shooting was bad this year, and that shooting was in trend with what Fears had done previously in his career. On Nike’s EYBL Circuit last summer, he shot 26.9 percent from three on 4.5 attempts. On Nike’s EYBL Scholastic League with Chandler (AZ) AZ Compass, he shot 23.7 percent from three on 4.5 attempts. At Oklahoma this season, he shot 28.4 percent from three on 3.9 attempts.

Fears put relentless pressure on the defense this season, touching the paint regularly and earning easy baskets at the free-throw line. His 215 free-throw attempts was second in the SEC, as were his 183 free-throws made. That 183 number was also 11th overall in D1 this season. Despite his poor three-point shooting, Fears shot 85.1 percent from the line.

Watching him play, you clearly see that Fears has a crafty handle and a relentless demeanor that helps him to collapse a defense regularly. However, to this point in his career (high school, EYBL, and college) Fears has been very turnover prone, finishing first in the SEC in turnovers, 116, which also placed him 12th in D1. Over his last 62 recorded games on Synergy, Fears has dished 216 assists while recording 205 turnovers, dating back to high school.

Measuring at 6-2.5, with a history of non-shooting to play off ball and and questionable decision-making to play on ball, where does that leave Fears as a high usage guard who touches the paint often?

A guy who has good form but had trouble being consistent shooting the 3 didn't shoot it consistently well during the the NBA Draft combine. I am sure teams are incredibly surprised and he's free falling down draft boards this instant.

shaw is a clown that was saying in feb that fears was 20th on his big board .. and should likely go back to school ..

he is using his bias ..

He'll be a solid long-term NBA guy. Bench for awhile and a starter as he develops strength and consistency. Not a star but steady.
My prediction a year or so ago was that he will develop into an all-conference type player as an upperclassman, like Isaiah Cousins. I also predicted that he will not be able to last in the NBA, also like Isaiah Cousins. I hope I am wrong and will gladly eat crow if he is able to stick because I am rooting for him.

I don’t think it’s a sign of bias that he isn’t as high on a player as some. Everyone has different opinions. And even some of the mocks that are very favorable for Fears acknowledge that there is a very wide range of views about him among NBA teams.

A guy with a slight frame who has never shot it well and who is turnover prone is naturally going to be questioned. I don’t think anything he said here is unfair.

I am definitely biased, but I won't pas up fears at any pick, other than to take Flagg. I'm not even sure I would take Flagg over him. Just a feeling on Fears. I think he is going to be an absolute star. Been wrong on talent projections many times and I am probably off base in this instance, but it JMO.

Not sure I understand your point. Multiple reporters have said the same thing about a lot of teams having concerns and worrying he might end up as little more than a solid rotation player.

Saying he is biased implies he has something personal against Fears. All he has done is give opinions on his game. Hollinger at The Athletic has Bailey as barely in his top 20. I think that’s crazy but I don’t think he has a personal vendetta against the guy. It’s just an opinion.

Those two guys are not in the same arena. Loved Cousins, but Fears was a significantly better and more impactful player as an 18 year old that Cousins was as a 22-23 year old.

I don't get what was so wrong with what the reporter said. He backed up the narrative with stats.

He reminds me some of Westbrook's early years. He won't touch Westbrook's career numbers in the NBA, but he'll be a guy who can stay in the league for a long time.

he is a much much much better shooter then westbrook

college FT shooting is the BEST indicator of nba 3 point shooting (as long as your form is good )
