I notice we have only played 16 games to date, while the vast majority of teams have played more. For example, just in the top 25, some have played 20, lots have played 18 or 19 (such as W Virginia & Baylor), but we are just at 16.

Why do you think that is? We are also low on home games - although not as bad about that as last year. Is OU trying to punish the fans for not attending as well as they did in past years?

We just had a bi-week so there are 2 games right there. We will even out by the end of the year.

Actually, the way the Big-12 scheduled our "bye" week we only missed one game. We played one last week (Saturday against OSU - and will play 2 this week (Wed. & Saturday). We will end the year having played but 29 regular season games. The lowest number in the big-12 if I'm not mistaken. It is caused by our low number of non-conference games. All big-12 teams play 18 in conference.

When we play Tech Wednesday, the 20th of January, that will be only our 2nd home game in the month of January - and we have only one home game left the rest of January. That is a big disadvantage for a way to begin the conference season. We also play mostly away games to close out the conference season - another disadvantage. Three of our last 5 are on the road - with one of our two home games being against Baylor (with just 2 days rest to prepare for that game). It is a rigged system.

It's probably because Sherri didn't want to coach that many games. :)

I think you are teasing, but I wonder about that. It is obviously caused by too few non-conference games - especially home non-conference games - and Sherri has 100% control over that I assume.

Yes, it was a joke. One can argue that playing fewer games isn't as tough on the players and they will have a little more gas in the tank in March.

True, but it makes it very hard to get to 22 or 23 wins by selection time - like so many teams do who play more games. Last year it is quite clear that playing too few games - especially home games - cost us home court in the tournament 1st round.

A record of 19-10 does not look as good as a record of 22-10 at the end. The # of wins really looks good on paper - even if they are a bit contrived by playing a few extra soft games early. Of course with us losing to a weak NT early, playing 2 or 3 more weak teams might have hurt us more than helped.

We have won 12 games. I think we have a good shot at beating:

Tech in Norman
WVU in Norman
ISU in Ames
OSU in Norman
TCU in Norman
KSU in Manhattan
KU in Lawrence
ISU in Norman
Tech in Lubbock

That would give us 21 wins. If we can beat WVU on the road or pick off a Baylor or Texas in Norman, we could end up in good shape.
