Fire Porter Moser

On a side note, what is everyone's thoughts on Josh Schertz for the job? St. Louis is looking really good this season.

My take is that we need to hire someone with proven performance over time. Can't afford to take a shot on someone this next time. Two downgrades in a row is a bad place to be. I wish Jerrod Calhoun had another year or two under his belt in division 1, but I really like him as a game coach and player developer. New Mexico coach is going to be a good one too, as well as the Belmont coach.

Fire midseason.

Have the interim just teach them how to play defense properly with effort. Hell, just copy South Alabama and run a no penetration 2-3 zone. Gimmicky? Maybe. But better than any of that other s*** I have seen out there on the court.

I see zero downside to firing him now. The season is shot. We will have an entirely new roster next season regardless because Moser can’t retain players anyway. Do something to at least show the fans that the administration cares at all about the program. Midseason firings happen all the time in pro sports. They happen in college football. And now that basketball programs spend millions on rosters, in addition to coaching salaries, what reason is there to not fire someone who has shown for five years that he sucks at his job?

I wonder if the people on S. Carolina boards are saying, well, at least we have one of our most winnable games coming up next. I’d guess so.

OU is not the best job, but it's in the SEC with SEC money. That will be attractive to coaches.

Jerrod Calhoun would be a good get for someone. He's rumored to be headed to Cincinnati, where his mentor Bob Huggins coached.

Eric Olen will not be at New Mexico long. He can coach. He took UC San Diego to the NCAA tournament in their first year of eligibility before taking the New Mexico job.

Casey Alexander is the Belmont coach. He played at Belmont, then later coached at Stetson and down the street at Lipscomb before getting the HC job at Belmont. I don't know if he's a Belmont lifer now or not. OU can pay more than them.

Depending on what openings happen where schools without football are getting more of the portion of revenue share/NIL, OU is at the bottom to be able to attract players to play in the SEC. A lot of coaches are factoring that in to whether they leave where they are or if they are fielding multiple offers.

Can we just fire moser and let Humphrey coach the team for the remainder of the season.

I’d bet damn near 100 percent of coaches who aren’t already power conference head coaches would take our job in a heartbeat.
Late reply here, but I will have to agree with another poster who replied earlier. If a hot candidate has multiple Power 5 school options, we might be down the list due to our recent lack of success coupled with both a poor fan base and low-end NIL money. I just don't know how far down we have fallen in the pecking order, but guessing we will find out soon. I would hate it if a hot candidate coach thought schools like Georgia, Seton Hall, Rutgers or Oregon State were a better option than (or as good as) OU. I remember what Kelvin said after OU hired him. I'm paraphrasing a bit, but you'll get the gist. "I turned down an opportunity at Clemson because I thought it was a lateral movement from Washington State. I took the job at Oklahoma because Billy made this a good job." So, what makes Oklahoma a good job in 2026? That's what we're about to find out.

There is no question the job has lost some prestige because of how bad Moser has been. But I don’t know how much competition we will have this offseason among power conference schools. Which would be yet another reason to axe him as soon as possible. As in, fire him yesterday.

We have to have a competitive NIL budget to lure a good coach here. That’s a fact. Coaches want to win and having a big NIL budget to build their roster is high on the list of support priorities.

I’d disagree because there are lots of coaches in smaller leagues with almost no NIL budget to speak of. And even though it would be harder for them to come win in the SEC, they also are competitive people who want to prove they can win on the biggest stage and with more talented players. And they also want to go to a league where you don’t have to win your conference tourney to make the tournament. I mean, Loser was able to make it last year with a 6-12 league record.
