Fire Porter Moser

The details are fuzzy -- can someone remind me exactly what happened at the end of the game against Providence in the Battle 4 Atlantis last season? I remember we were up like 10ish with 30 seconds left and almost lost. Porter had 6 guys on the court or something resulting in a technical?
Hahahaha! What a cluster that was. Trying to sub a guy with 3 seconds left up 4 after the second free throw ... someone who hadn't been in at all -- Atak maybe?

It was 8 or 10 within the last minute IIRC. What I know for certain is that we made two FTs to take a 4-pt lead with about 4 seconds left. As usual, he was frantic on the sideline, didn't do a great job of getting a player to the table in time. and the player eventually rushed onto the floor without properly getting waved in by the refs. The T resulted in 2 made FTs by Providence, and they then had a makeable 3 at the buzzer that would have won the game.

That tourney was the highlight of his OU career because they won a tourney against a very solid field, but the end of all three games got unnecessarily close because of our usual late-game execution.

Imo I don't expect it to help us too much. Buddy hield was a much bigger impact player for us and idk that we've received a lot of upside from him. Hes also been criminally underrated in the pros, especially amount of 3s made.

I think reeves' publicity will actually help us some however. I still cannot believe how hes turned out. I never gave him a chance at all
Fears has all star upside .. he will be much closer to reaves then buddy as an nba player

I was just thinking when I saw the talk on Twitter about that: knowing what we know now, if we could go back 18 months, would you want Fears for a year if you knew it would subject us to more Moser? I love Fears, that’s not what I’m saying at all. But if he didn’t land in our lap, that team likely loses 20 games and Moser would be someone else’s problem this year. Was it worth one season where we backed into the tourney with a 6-12 league record?
Absolutely not. We're one year deeper into the hole because Fears fell into our lap. Last year's team with Jalon Moore "leading" the way would've dropped the 4-14 turd into the punch bowl and we'd be on to the next thing. Instead we missed out on a solid batch of coaches just so we could reward mediocrity to an underwhelming program. I wonder how many NIL agents out there give two dingleberries that Fears went to OU. I wonder how many mercenaries remember that we had two Naismith winners in eight seasons. Beating a crappy Texas team in Austin kicked this wretched can one more year down the road and the more we lose the madder I get. The book should be closed on this nonsense.

By the way: Fears is a great player. He'll never accomplish a thing in New Orleans because that franchise is a joke, but he's one heck of a guard.

Wait til the unlikely scenario happens where they decide to let Loser get another year lol

I've only watched part of the interview with the new AD, but somebody asked him a question about basketball. Not sure what I expected him to say, but he handled it with pretty much a poker face. He said something about checkpoints during the year and not allowing emotion to take over any decisions. Didn't really know what to make of that but it kind of made me nervous. Again he can't just come out and say I know he's an idiot i'm going to fire his arse. But, hard to read. I sure hope he really studies the last 5 years and listens to the right people... and that he's not intimidated and does the right thing.

One thing that scares me about OU, and know it's been a long time ago... But they actually had a vote on live TV with the regents on whether or not to fire John Blake back in the day? And it was one freaking vote that saved our program. As putrid and embarrassing as Blake was he STILL almost got retained. There was enough collective ignorance to almost retain him. I hope OU has long moved past that bush league type charade, and they have adults in charge...

I think it’s like 60/40 he gets fired. I’m starting to think he gets a “grace year” while the new AD gets his ducks in a row.

if it takes these guys a year to figure it out and get ducks in a row....we have bigger problems

A friend from high school (grew up in the Tulsa area) who sometimes talks to someone who works for OU said there is "less than a 1%" chance that Moser is fired before the end of the season. He said Denny is pretty tight lipped but he feels it's like a "50/50" that Moser gets a grace year. He said it seems the clock reset a bit for Moser due to the AD change, and if he finishes the year strong it could influence Denny's decision. He said a poor finish could influence Denny's decision too, but that Denny will definitely let the year play out before making a final decision.

This is where I land. I don’t think we will get any recruits or transfers just because we had Fears. That’s not how it works these days. And even if it did, it wouldn’t matter once Moser is gone, because it wouldn’t be like any recruit would be coming to play for the same coach who allegedly developed Fears. We remember and love Fears because he played for our team. People around the country who aren’t invested in OU don’t think about him any more than they would any other lottery pick. As much as I enjoyed watching him and was glad to see our name in the bracket, that wasn’t enough to offset what is happening this season.

Ahhh okay. Disregard my other question.

I do believe there is a high chance they don’t win another game this year. So we have that going for us 🥲

I agree, but still. Seems like college athletics takes place in a vacuum where, what we think is common sense, isn’t applied.

I would guess he doesn't. He seems like a stand up guy off the court. I would be very surprised if he does this
He’s already done this in many roundabout ways as the sitting head coach. Would not be surprised at all to offload the blame on the university in as many ways as he can

This would be because of buyout and new AD. Different than John blake
