Fire Porter Moser

If contract is up in 2027, do you really want any head coach not under contract for the next year?

I think he should not be back next year, and solves my concerns right then.
Yes, given the unique situation and his hot seat, I'm not going to extend him and force a buyout on University should we need to fire him after the 2027 season.

But like I said, he's under contract until 2028. Google can be your friend. People have talked about his buyout going down to $2M after the 2027 season. Coaches that have run their contract out don't have a buyout at that point.

Yep.

From a recent article at Sooners Illustrated:
"Nothing has been decided about the future of Moser, who has two years remaining on his current contract — which was extended in 2024 through June 30, 2028 — ahead of the SEC Tournament, and the team's play over the last month has certainly impacted the equation.

Moser has $6.9 million remaining on his contract at Oklahoma, and if he is fired without cause, he would be owed a buyout worth 75% of the remaining value on the deal, paid in monthly installments through the end of the original term of the contract. That figure would amount to approximately $5.8 million, when accounting for the final three-plus months' worth of salary owed this year, and is subject to mitigation should Moser get hired for another job in coaching, administration, broadcasting, management or other athletics-related businesses."

I think change is needed and want a new coach next year. I can see players not caring if they are in the portal, but high schoolers may care. But point taken.
Probably true that high school kids care a bit more, but if they have decent freshman seasons, they will be looking for the best deal possible after the season.

Thanks for info. Definitely no extension needed.

I wouldn't think Villanova would have legit interest last off season, but they did...
I don't believe this was ever a thing. This was porter's agent from my connected friend. He may have gotten an interview but was NEVER a real candidate

Here is the thing that I don't think is being addressed here in these conversations. Yes, we are very hot right now, but what has happened over the last five years that has made anyone truly think this is going to get better under Moser in years to come? Moser has never finished with an above 500 conference record at OU. He's missed the tourney in 3 of his first 4 seasons and the only reason he isn't guaranteed to miss 4 of 5 right now is a weak bubble. Do we not all think the ceiling of this program is higher than this? If we keep him another year, are you okay with fighting for our life on the bubble and finishing below 500 in conference again? At some point, things just need to be shaken up. We need an injection of life into the bball program. Moser has lost the fanbase as a whole - the ticket sales have shown that - and it is probably better for everyone involved to start over.

It is. But screw it. Let's get in the tourney anyway
