Fire Porter Moser

That's his conference winning percentage just at OU. But his career conference winning % skyrockets up to .440 if you count his 17 years in the Missouri Valley/Horizon League.

His Final Four run with Loyola was merely a blip.

If only somebody on this board had pointed that out at the time he was hired.

Agree on the last point. I don’t see anything good about his coaching. I think some writers and fans just can’t get past the fact that they “like” him, and/or they can’t acknowledge that bad coaches can get to the FF if their team gets hot for two weeks. I mean, OU managed to win three in a row last March to get into the tournament. Moser wasn’t a good coach. Fears carried the team.
He can be a “good” basketball coach but not “good enough” for Oklahoma. I tend to think he’s just what his record says he is. Decent. I think he could probably have success at the lower level again. And he should just stay there. Hell, he clearly wants to go to a place with better fans. There are many smaller schools he could get consistent fan support at. He would be happier.

Can his ego take the hit? Idk.

I was on the "he is a good coach" train for a long time ..

but i have to tell you watching them this year .. makes me think that less and less ..

i think he is more of a "if i have the right kind of players" i can be a good coach .. guy ..

the raw talent on this years team is the best since he has been at OU ... but his "coaching" is failing them

Very fair. He’a definitely tried to adapt to the new ways. He’s embraced the portal, begged and pleaded for money and even brought over a dude for one semester. But maybe his style just isn’t cut out for mercenary basketball that is college basketball.

Cameron Krutwig did more for Moser than I can recall an individual player doing for a coach in any collegiate sport. Maybe Burrow for Coach O? But that was short lived. Cam for Chizik? It really is remarkable the difference in Moser's teams with and without Krutwig. I don't have the willpower to do all the calculations, but remove the Krutwig years and Moser's record looks significantly worse than it already does.

What lows have to hit for him to fired mid season? I think an ugly loss to Texas at home could do it

i don't think it's any particular loss.
i think it will only happen if the players just flat out quit on moser and joe c has no other choice but to act during the season.
and moser has had some pretty tough seasons where his players didn't completely quit. that seems to be the only thing he does well.

Blake Griffin for Jeff Capel would be up there as well.

This will shock some people, but I agree it’s time.

We need to get a new AD in place yesterday so he/she can get to work on finding the RIGHT coach to lead the program. It’s a nearly impossible feat at this point. It won’t be for everyone.
Yep, I've come to that point at well. Just not getting the job even halfway done at this point.

This. I wanted to believe that with higher level athletes that his "system" would be hard to stop and that he would continue to preach defense. At this point it looks like other teams have figured the system out and yet OU is doing nothing to stop other teams from doing anything they want.

Jameis Winston for Jimbo Fisher.

But considering the sport and type of player and the coach, Krutwig for Moser is an alltimer.

I'm curious enough to do the math...

In Krutwig's 4 years at Loyola (interestingly, the final 4 run was his freshman year... another point for those advocating for Porter's players' lack of development), Loyola was 99-36 and 56-16 in conference. If you remove those 4 years from his totals, Porter is 279-271 (.507) and 106-190 (.358) in conference. Pretty similar percentages as his time at OU (.567 & .351).

where are we on the AD search? Would expect the new AD won’t begin until joe retires. Isn’t the official start of the nest years academic calendar July 1?

Even if we had a new AD, could they do anything before that date?

Ouch, this is as devastating a takedown of a head coach as you will see. I had to laugh though at Lusk continuing to insist that Moser is a good coach. Yeah that doesn’t do anything to soften the blow, but nice try.
He has to say that. He has to be professional while saying it’s time to move on. You never publicly call the coach a bum. That’s what message boards are for.

I don't agree with that. I remember some with reservations about it because of his record but in general, even from people outside oklahoma, it was a good splash hire
It wasn’t a splash hire at all. Most people were shocked and were scratching their heads, like me.

I tried to get behind it and talk myself into being a moser fan. I supported him for several years but he has proven beyond all doubt that he is not the guy for OU. He never was.
