i'm more hopeful/optimistic.
it wasn't that long ago we had a couple really good crowds early in the conference season....then the wheels came off like usual
a new coach will generate some excitement. winning will attract fans in a hurry.

I'm sure they'd like to hire a new AD before they fire him. If they don't hire one soon, they won't get that luxury. Sometimes in football coaching searches, a school will quickly fire the AD so he won't have to hire the new coach, especially if he's had a couple of bad hires.

What quality coach is going to want to come work for a new AD that didn't hire him?

I'd think we'll have an AD by the end of February. I heard on another board they're down to three candidates.

Great point. By May all the good coaches will be hired and the good players will be signed. No excuse if they can’t get an AD in place well before then. If we didn’t have an incompetent tool running the basketball program, there would be less urgency. But the can’t drag their feet.

Miami (Ohio) just went to 20-0 (8-0 MAC) tonight. If they make the tournament, do we go after Travis Steele? I know he was fired at Xavier after going 70-50 and 31-37 in the Big East. Miami won 25 games last year but was left out of the tournament. He's 142-96 after 7 seasons and part of an 8th.

It'd be hard to go after another Midwestern coach this time unless he's just really awesome. Plus, better to be fired from Xavier than from Illinois State.

I don't think they will. Joe castiglione loves the guy. We might have to lose out to get there

IMO no. To me you either hire the up and comer Calhoun, Schertz, or Hodgson. Or you get someone who has proven power 4 success just need a new spot.

Agreed… I think Schertz has to be option A, and then if you can’t get him everyone else would be option B imo

I’ve kind of bought into Calhoun as option A. But either is a good reset.
