Fire Porter Moser

If our bball program is really the sisters of the poor jv program rn then it makes sense why the JoeC would wait until the ill advised extension runs out. The new guy probably wants an offseason to fire him instead of landing and immediately yeeting Moser off the cliff.

I don’t know anything about him but the original Dave bliss did set us on the path to being a great program for a really long time. He laid a foundation that billy Tubbs turned into greatness And Kelvin Sampson also continued. Maybe it’s fate, history repeating. Or maybe we’re doomed!
Original Dave Bliss was good at OU but Tubbs had to start all over. Then there was that Baylor stuff which always made me very happy he didn’t stick around OU.

You are correct. Dave Bliss left almost nothing for Billy Tubbs to build around. He left him a solid senior (Ray Whitley), one young player to build around (Chucky Barnett), and another young player to help them compete (Bo Overton). With Whitley having to redshirt due to injury, the 1980-81 OU team was easily the least talented roster in the past 55-60 years. The reason Billy didn't have much was because Bliss stopped recruiting - he wanted to get the heck out of Norman. I think NMSooner80 can provide more details on the WHY part, but guessing it had a lot to do with the fan base and administration's perceived lack of commitment. The thing is, they did TRY to get John Thompson away from Georgetown, so that would indicate there was someone in the athletic department who wanted to win.

In mict085's defense, I think he was referring to the fact that Bliss did take OU to the highest level of any coach after Bruce Drake. The 1979 NCAA Tournament appearance was their first since 1947. Bliss certainly gets credit for perhaps Billy thinking he can win at OU...just like Kelvin said he took the OU job because Billy made it a good job.

Speaking of John Thompson, there was a classic line from Billy Tubbs a few of you may not have heard. When asked: "Does it bother you that you were not OU's first choice?" Billy's reply: "No. I wasn't my wife's first choice either."

Sorry, back on topic. Fire Moser! :)
