Folks ... if you're watching these games on TV

Humans pay for a lot of things that aren't worth the price.

Not everyone. I've not missed anything getting rid of cable. Why pay more when I'm getting the same thing for less?

sorry. I didnt grow up that way. we were poor and every penny counted. Of course I can afford cable - but why pay $250 bucks for something when I can pay $200 less? Thats just stupid. The ease? LOL. It's no harder to push three buttons on my keyboard than it is to push three on my remote.

I doubt you penny pinch and go for the cheapest way in EVERY thing you do.

To me, cable is just an area I decide to pay and enjoy it. I just watch my money in other areas. But I don't have to miss a single OU football or basketball game with cable, and I don't have to worry that I might. That's an area where I choose to pay a bit more for convenience. Guarantee I watch my money in some other area where you splurge. To each their own.

I cut mine back last year. I pay $57 for uverse high speed cable, $25 for Sling, $9 for netflix, $5 for hulu and then we have amazon prime but we use it mainly for shipping (the tv shows/movies are gravy).

What do you use for the basketball games? If a game is on fox though I'm SOL.

Yeah, don't steal content. I'm all for protesting overpriced goods by voting iwth your wallet, but don't just take them without permission because you don't want to pay the price for them.

nothing is stolen here. these are all public broadcasts. we just get to choose which region we pick from instead of having it chosen for us. try again.

Nothing on ESPN or Fox Sports is a public broadcast. Those are subscription services that you're not subscribing to. Somebody who IS subscribing to it is then illegally disseminating that content. There's a legal disclaimer about it on just about every single broadcast...

exactly. When the FCC made the rule that cable companies had to offer local options my carrier put out a package for those leaving that gives you basic cable and high Speed (ha) internet for a price LESS than the high speed internet alone. $60/month. Saving me $200/month. when I was going to just have internet alone it was $65.

$40/month unlimited phone.
$60/month internet/TV

always looking to tighten that budget.

I see both WTSooner and your points of view. A penny saved is definitely a penny earned, and i have no problem watching the games on my 10 inch laptop screen while the kids watch cartoons on the 42 inch tv, because I am just thankful about being able to watch my beloved Sooners. My income is probably lower than most people's on here, and I try to conserve to the best of my ability. Then again, some of my financial decisions have probably made my wife want to toss me in a cage with Anderson Silva and grab some popcorn :ez-roll::ez-roll

I would agree if you could subscribe to cable or satellite a la carte. For example if I could just subscribe to ESPN and Fox Sports without having to also get basic channels or some other channels that are worthless I could see you having a point. You can't buy what you really want.

Yep. This explains it. Actual footage of cable company service representatives ...

That doesn't make it right though.

That's like saying it's okay to steal a certain kind of cookie out of a package of cookies, because you just want that one type and they don't sell it outside of the package that contains multiple other types.

You either buy the entire thing, or you do without.

ESPN placed their feeds on the "local option" list for sites so they would go with that FCC-req'd package. Well, except for ESPNNews. That one I will give you. The Fox feeds are public except they change regionally - which is mainly the point. Getting all the regional feeds instead of just your region isnt taking from anyone.

where are these sites that espn gives away their content ..

strange considering espn makes you sign in (ie prove that you pay for espn) to get any of their content on any of the legit sites ...or devices

yes, that's the whole problem with directv or any cable company. You can't just buy ESPN, Fox, TBS, TNT and AMC. You also have to buy all the shopping networks, the BYU channel, and other crap I never watch. I told Directv the exact same thing when I left their services. Let me buy ala carte and I will stay your customer.

At one time, I went to the cheapest package they offer which is $29.95. But, to get it in HD, that was another $10. The DVR rental was $10 and the package to watch it on any TV was $10. By the time it was all said and done, I was spending $70 and the only channels I was getting was HGTV, Blooomberg, Food network and about 10 shopping channels. It was a complete joke. That was the final straw for me.

You're rationalizing not paying for these services because of the market power that exists for firms in these markets. I agree that we should be able to purchase these channels separately but cable doesn't operate in a perfectly competitive market so the firms have more power than we do. It happens in markets all the time. Is it OK to sneak aboard an airplane simply because they charge higher prices the week before the flight departs than they do three months earlier? Or sneak into movies because they charge higher prices at night than they do in the daytime?

I don't think you understand what a public broadcast is. Depending on your locality, you have anywhere from 5 to about 15 broadcast networks. Nowhere is ESPN of Fox Sports included in those broadcast networks. Fox, yes. Fox Sports, no. Those are subscription services that are not available for free publicly to a single person on this earth.

Just because they are in basic cable packages doesn't mean they are publicly broadcast. In fact, it just further bolsters the point that they are subscription services.

Listen, I know people are going to pirate media. I don't support it, but it's going to happen. In the long run, it doesn't really affect me, so whatever. I just hate the rationalizations that people use when they don't want to admit that they're stealing something.

If you want to be technical then, it's copyright infringement to discuss on this forum what we see on ESPN without asking them for permission. Posting pictures, video, etc is all "wrong".

But that's if you're NOT an anarchist like myself.

fine. I'm wrong. wouldnt be the first time. wont be the last. I am still going to watch games thru my computer. you guys dont have to.

Posting youtube vids of full games is probably wrong. But there's tons of ESPN college football/basketball games on youtube.
