With this team winning two games recently is it enough to save SC?

Seriously, I do not believe that Coach Coale's job is in any jeopardy at this time, win or lose in the 2018-19 season. Whether or not it should be, is open to debate.

At the same time, her supervisors at OU will expect better next season. I'm sure Coach Coale expects better also.

I agree with SoonerTraveler, as much as I might want a change I don't believe you will have one. SC good for another 2 to 3 years.

Regardless how the season ends, Sherri will be back next year, and probably one more, if things stay the same, she will "retire" and move on.

I agree. She will stay at OU at least through next season to see how a second good recruiting class meshes with Ana and our Sophomores.

We all expect there to be continued improvement.

I think if she fashions a good season next year, Sherri will probably stay for a third just to see what transpires. If that is good, she might retire or she might coach one more with all these kids being juniors and seniors.

After that, I think she will call it off and retire.

Now, if the team doesn’t improve this season into next season, then she might go ahead and retire — if we have more losses than wins next year and/or we didn’t make the tournament for a second year in a row.

In that scenario, Joe C might quietly nudge her out the door.

She’s gone in three years max one way or the other though. Maybe in two years.

Of course there’s always a chance (minimal at best) she and Joe just call it off and let a new coach mold these two classes beginning next season.

I think it depends on the attendance and support. If those areas pick up she will remain. If they continue to decline.....

Joe C is not about to pull a Donnie Duncan.

Sherri would have to have at least three losing years (which Sylvia Hatchell has done at NC and still has a job) to risk Sherri's job. I don't think he would take a chance then. He would wait for Sherri to see that was enough and retire. She has too much pride to continue to lose.

I suspect that this entire discussion is irrelevant. There are signs that the team is improving. They are getting some help next year. They will be sophomores and juniors next year with three good freshmen learning the ropes from people who have been there a year. They'll probably hit about 18-10 next year. maybe 20 to 21 wins.

We will see how long Sherri wants to coach in November when we see her next class. If she has a couple of good recruits that can contribute as freshmen, she may be looking at five or six years. It will reveal her vision of the future.

I agree that there is almost no chance that the OU Admin will "fire"
coach Coale after this season. There is a distinct upward trend in recruiting, and too many quality seasons and national recognition of the coach and the program to be hasty in a change.
Hopefully there has been a discussion about improvement required in the future, or else a discussion of becoming an ambassador for the OU women's programs. And maybe about improvement in player development having a relationship to change or not in assistant coaches

You could be exactly right, Syb. Everything we are all saying are just guesses.

We’ve all been right and wrong at times here on a lot of things like, oh, say Maddie Manning.

There are those who are unhappy with the status of the WBB program, some have been for several years self included. But the status of Sherri with the OU program is pure speculation. What Joe Castiglione, James Gallogly, the Board of Regents and key donors forsee is all that really matters with WBB not being a real revenue sport.

Sherri created her less than ideal situation with the WBB program by the decisions she has made so the onus to fix it is on her. And she has most definitely earned the right to do so. The only varible is the timeline in which she has to get it done.

Personally I think a target of 2-3 year is reasonable. As a benchmark I think she needs to be able to contend for the top 1-3 positions in the conference annually and win 2-3 conference championships a decade. That to me would be a very successful OU WBB program given the circumstances that have evolved in Waco and Austin which are not going to change in the foreseeable future.

Sherri is 54 so she is plenty young enough it give OU another 10 years if she desires. Should she want to retire sooner that could also be a positive if the right person is hired. But that would be Joe Castiglione's problem and I am comfortable he already has a replacement list in place just as he does for all 18 of his head coaches. To do otherwise would be to expose yourself to getting caught with your britches down.

I don't give a darn about how Manning is doing overseas! That's just another of your infamous switching the subject posts.

But, for the sake of pointing out your obfuscation, lets consider this:

For six years we had to put up with your internet gushing about how Manning was going to be better than Hand and the second coming of D-Rob or Leah, etc. You might as well have been her dad, grandpa or boyfriend you sang her praises so loudly.

But toward the end of last season even you began to grudgingly admit she wasn't performing well. What a bitter pill that must have been. The great all-knowing Syb proven wrong, yet again.

The last two years she played, particularly her sixth year, she was serviceable (you could even argue good). She also wasn't a good leader IMHO, and was continuously inconsistent to the point of really letting the team down in more than one case.

So Why, why, WHY is she lighting it up overseas? Only explanation can be a better team, better coaching or working harder to get better.

My guess is it is better coaching and a better team.

UNC may have had losing seasons but look at them this year! Talk about a giant killer!! can the Sooners ever get to that place again? I mean we have been close, but we will actually have to win one of these under SC before I believe again...

The last time we had a legitimate team that have the ability to beat a top 5 team was our last final four run IMO. Those girls were deadly, just look at the calendar the game we came back from behind to win that season!

Don't you ever get embarrassed with your negativity? You should.

Maddie Manning had two ACLs that injured her career. She also had a foot injury that required a cast and a broken hand. She played a good part of her senior year with a cast on her shooting hand. Knocked about 5% off of her shooting percentage.

She was our only defensive stopper. We beat OSU once because she held Donoho to zero points. Held Atkins down once so we could beat Texas. Nice if you play them when you have some mobility.

And, she is hitting at about 22 and 12 in Europe, having hit 40 in a playoff game.

And, yes, I will defend Hall of Fame coaches. Remarkable that I should have to. It says something about the OU message board fans that they have the audacity to criticize Hall of Fame coaches, student athletes. It also says something disgusting that those who support the Hall of Fame coaches and players are discussed as villains.

Who write this confounded script?

OL, were you born hateful or is the way your parents raised you?

Does Manning have the same level competition overseas as she did in college? I'm assuming it's even better, which leads me to believe she FINALLY has started to play to her potential! Kind of sad how injuries set her back while she was here as we could have used that level of play from her. I always liked her but grew frustrated with her constant injuries and set backs. It's good to hear she's doing well as a pro though!

We could use a player like her on next seasons team...Lampkin? Bloom, or Scott??

Ignorance is bliss. And you meet the criteria.

Cat and Sweetest,

I don’t mince words. Syb denigrates everyone who posts here constantly and has for years.

He’s almost killed this board, IMHO.

He’s an internet bully.

He thinks he’s the only one entitled to an opinion and that his opinion is the only right one.

He’s driven off several posters. Another board was created because of Syb’s behavior here.

Everyone else here discusses things without being a jerk - we always have. Everyone except him.

I’m not even sure he’s every been in the LNC for a game.

In my opinion, it’s time the administrators of this board ban him.

Then he wouldn’t have to lower himself to converse with all the other people on this board who supposedly don’t know anything and who allegedly just hate Sherri.
