The unity will not last very long. Just like there was/is with Sampson, there is a group of hardcore Capel loyalists on here that will take any chance they can to rip him. Just wait and see.

Yep. I have never understood dwelling on the past to the detriment of the present. It is the nature of college athletics that coaches' and players' impact if temporary. Coaches retire, leave, get fired. Players graduate, leave early, get pushed out. Even in the best programs there are cycles of excellence and mediocrity. Coaches and players who excel and leave on good terms should retain our affections.
But the most important coach and players are the ones we have right now. They are the only ones competing and the only ones who can win. Former players and coaches can no longer chalk up wins to our account. Capel had my support while he was our coach. I will cherish the memories of going to Memphis to watch our team beat Syracuse and play North Carolina for a trip to the final four. It is silly to let what happened after that game and season tarnish the memories.
Now it is time to look forward to new memories. And those can only come from Kruger and the players here now and the ones we can bring in. I want to help them excel. I want to support them. It is not helpful to constantly compare them to coaches and players long gone. The past cannot be relived. Life is in the present. I am hopeful that our present situation will lead to a good future. And I will do my darnedest to enjoy the heck of that future if it comes to fruition.
I considered myself a Capel loyalist almost all the way to the bitter end, but Lon Kruger is now the coach at OU and that's all that matters. I'm ecstatic that he's here.
Coach Capel had my absolute full support through to his very last day on campus.
But that does not mean at all that Kruger doesn't have my support now.
i'm parking right here with you. I have battled with just departing this board all together after how our fans turned last season into a mud slingin' okie good time. It simply became unbearable for me.
I will approach the new regime the same way that i ended with the last---- fully supporting anything sooner related!!!! Not sure how long the unity will last. Our track record on unity is not good.....
When the season is not going so well next year....Most of you will be saying the hire was a mistake. Its just the way message boards are...sorry, but its the truth.
Every one of your posts is just delightful.
