For those who went to the game

We were favored by 7.

I don't pretend to be an expert on Vegas lines, but that sounds like we got overrated by the odds makers based on our pedigree. That was definitely not a top-drawer Sooner squad. I don't remember us being a favorite like that, but I'll take your word for it. Doesn't really matter, could have been a pick 'em game and the media would still have (over)reacted the same way.

I was frustrated that we lost -- I always am when we lose -- but that game doesn't rank with a final four loss in hoops or a national title game in football or even last season's playoff loss to Clemson. It's not even in the same ballpark.

It was just a bowl game, and the bowl season -- title (or now, playoff) games aside -- is just a bunch of exhibition games that occur weeks after the regular season ends. It's the Twilight Zone of college football, and the idea that any of those games (outside of the playoffs) mean more than regular-season games between ranked teams is a (recently minted) crock.

Obviously, everyone has their own parameters, but I wouldn't include Boise in the list of "big events." That was just a bowl game, in a relatively off year for us. BSU was ranked ahead of us and favored in the game, IIRC (they were definitely ranked ahead of us in the BCS standings).
It's a game that I we had to hear about over and over again. Not a prideful moment for OU.

The reason Boise became a bigger game than it was is that the final plays were shown over and over on ESPN and others and it became a David and Goliath kind of thing. My fear is that what Nova did to us will also be talked about for a long time, especially since they won. However, with the exciting finish against NC, that may take some of the interest off of our game.

The final and the game winning shot will easily supersede the blowout the game before

. . . . . Football stadiums suck for basketball, I was in section 102 and it was still terrible. If you ever go, spend the money to sit close, otherwise stay at home. Complete waste of money otherwise.

This is the primary reason I did not travel to Houston. After the 2002 Final-4 in Atlanta, I vowed to never again go inside a football stadium to watch a basketball game. I had “lower level” seats and was still a mile away. As you correctly say: football stadiums suck for basketball. I attend all home games and quite a few away games, but if OU ever wins a basketball NC inside a football stadium, I will watch it from home.

. . . . . Won't be too long till I'll get to see the Sooners here in NYC, though I wish they were playing at West Point, not Yankee Stadium.

Are you sure the 2020 game at Army is not being played at West Point? I thought it was. I was looking forward to that trip. I so enjoyed the 2001 trip to Colorado Springs and the game at the Air Force Academy. I've been to Yankee Stadium a few times, so that would be far less appealing than a game at West Point.

If the game is at West Point, I am going. In Yankee Stadiun, I will likely pass.

I thought it was to be played at West Point, too, but I have heard it's to be played at Yankee Stadium. I very much hope I'm wrong.

I sure hope that's correct. It never occurred to me they'd play in Yankee Stadium, so unless I dreamed it (possible, I suppose), I saw it mentioned somewhere. I wish I could remember where.

But even if it is played at the House That Replaced the House That Ruth Built, you guys should still come. When else will you have the chance to buy me a beer?

IPAs, Belgians and stouts okay? If then, we will be on. ;)

Got back from H-Town today, a few observations:

Agree with us having potentially the largest # of fans at NRG, just no chance to let that show. Not an overwhelming advantage though.

Did not see as many OU fans at the music fest and other events. The team hotel being at the Galleria may have been the reason, but I think the other 3 teams were also at hotels out there.

Not much red in the stadium last night, but a few brave souls.

The music fest and events near the site are really good ideas by the NCAA and need to continue, though I imagine that depends on sponsorship.

Tarhole fans sure wear a lot of jerseys for an "upper crust" fanbase.

Villanova girls were surprisingly hot.

I would probably go to both but I'm sure hoping it's in West Point. Like Traveler, I went to the AFA in 01 and that was a great trip. The pageantry at the Academies is unmatched for a football game.

I called the football office for clarification, but the young woman I spoke with didn't even know we were playing Army in 2020, I don't think, and she showed no inclination whatsoever to transfer me to someone else, so I threw in the towel.

I remember Joe C doing an interview last year talking about the scheduling of non conference games where the fans would enjoy attending. He specifically mentioned Army but don't remember him saying where it was to be played. Just the context of the interview, I would say it's at West Point.
