Forte

Hollis Price? Hollis Price? lol not in a million years. Price was an all American his junior & senior years. He finished 3rd in the Wooden voting. Final 4, elite 8, 3 time big XII tournament champ, the list goes on and on. He even won MVP of a pro league in Europe.

Forte is an average player. He's Cade Davis tops.

LOL.

Forte certainly isn't as good as Hollis Price was, but he's MUCH better than freaking Cade Davis.

Unless I somehow missed that Cade Davis was a 3-year starter and was ever #2 scorer in the Big 12 (like Forte currently is) at any point in his career.

Name something on a basketball court that Hollis was significantly better than Forte at?

Hollis averaged 16 points, 3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.7 steals per game as a junior. 38% from the 3pt line and 45% from the field, 83% from the line. He was also surrounded by a bad-ass team.

They have very similar numbers, nearly identical in their junior years. Forte averages slightly more points, Hollis slightly more rebounds, Forte slightly more steals, etc.

Forte is a better 3pt shooter, and Hollis had an awesome mid-range game.

Hollis also never had a chance at the NBA. It's not like he is some unreal talent. He was a great college player and a nice overseas pro player.

Price had the benefit of playing on much better teams than Forte did.

If this OSU team was a top 15-type team, Forte would get a lot more credit.

he would also likely score many fewer points ...

For this OSU team to be a top 15 squad, they need better players...which means less Forte. No different than the Cade Davis argument here a couple years ago, only reason Cade put up some numbers is because he was playing 32 minutes a game.

Last year, as a soph, he played with:

  • Marcus Smart (lottery pick and now a starter in the NBA, which Hollis never achieved)
  • Markel Brown, on roster with the Brooklyn Nets.
  • LeBryan Nash, a McDonalds All-American

Even with playing with two NBA players and Nash, he still averaged 13 points per as a sophomore... He hit 100 3's, hitting 44% of his attempts.

Which, by the way, is more PPG than Hollis averaged as a sophomore. Hollis never played with or shared the ball with any lottery picks or NBA players. Hollis averaged 11 as a sophomore, Forte averaged 13.

Forte is a very good college player guys, there is no doubting it.

LOL at this discussion. I'm sure Hollis and Forte would get a big kick out of it too.

Man abd, I thought you were going to make it this year. You usually overhype mediocre OSU teams and players right out of the gate.

You made it all the way to January!! It's a record. But in the end you just couldn't help yourself.

Numbers don't lie.

Unrelated question... you ever go to the Phoenix Open PGA event there? The Waste Management one? Usually a pretty solid field.

Bumping this for abd.

After scoring 21 in Ames last night, Forte is now leading the Big 12 in scoring at 17.7 ppg.

As you said, abd, numbers don't lie. :D

I really don't like OSU in any sport or anything else. With that said, the truth is Forte is a pretty good basketball player.

Hollis Price is my favorite college player so it's tough for me to compare forte to him regardless of the numbers he's put up. (biased I know) I've said multiple times though that I absolutely love forte. I agree he most likely comes off the bench for us but I think that says more about where cousins and buddy are at than anything. I'll say that if OSU wins 6 or more conference games with forte keeping this pace there's no way you can't name him all conference.

Forte is nowhere close to being an NBA prospect though. No way could he play off the ball at his size and defend and he certainly doesn't seem like a pg so I don't see where he fits with an NBA team.

No way Forte comes off the bench for OU this year... He is the leading scorer in the conference, one of the best shooters in the country, is top 10 in the country in steals.

Nobody said he was.

You bet he is. Shooters like that are hard to find.

drugs stop taking them ..

answer .. neither .. and it is not close

Who was the sharpshooter who went to Arkansas then transferred to Butler? Would you compare him to Forte?

Did that guy ever get drafted? Play in Europe?

Rotnei Clarke. Last I heard he was playing overseas, in Belgium I believe.

Like Forte, he was a pure shooter from deep. That's not enough to earn Phil a serious look from an NBA team. But it might be enough for him to earn a little cash the way Clarke is doing now.
