Foul mood about foul shots >>> Tulsa World

Hard to believe that Fitzgerald thought the team had a reason to be "full of themselves." Even harder to believe he would say something like that. How can a team with an 11-9 record going into the game be full of themselves? :facepalm

It's not hard to imagine if you remind yourself that you are talking about 18 - 22 year old kids. Also, "Full of themselves" is somewhat of a relative term. I doubt that he meant that they were "Full of themselves" to the point that they thought they could beat all comers. I think there's probably a fine line between a team like this developing confidence in themselves (which you want) and becoming "full of themselves" (which you don't want).

Yeh right. Seats about 13K. Maybe half full. I'd say 6-7K.

This is from the article:
It was suggested to Capel that Fitzgerald said the Sooners "were a little full of themselves" coming in.

A reporter said that to Capel and Fitz never used those words. Much ado about nothing. Media making up things. Nothing new.

The boys are not full of themselves.

Good point, MsProud.

BruinSooner's explanation pretty much answered any question I might have had after reading your post. A reporter who tailors his questions to get a rise out of the head coach makes perfectly good sense to me. It certainly wouldn't be the first time, nor will it be the last.

FWIW:

“We need to just keep our head up and stay focused. It’s good that we had been knocked down like this game right here so we can get our heads back to being where it was when we were 0-3, to be back focused to beat a tougher team. Things happen for a reason and I think we were happy with our success with a four game winning streak, but now we’re knocked down and now it’s time to get back and play OU basketball again.”

-Fitzgerald

This may have been what the reporter used for his question fodder. Certainly doesn't sound like being "full of themselves" to me.

I was at the game yesterday and after Ford got his technical the
referees swallowed their whistles against OSU. I really was not
familiar with these referees and I have had season tickets at OU
for 35 years. The short referee only called one foul on OSU in the
final 30 minutes. Even the lead ref did not call a foul on them for
almost 20 minutes. This is not to excuse the players as Clark and
Pledger were timid the entire game. We suffer because we do not
have two quality ballhandlers on the court at the same time plus
with only 1 low post threat they started doubling Fitzgerald in the
second half as soon as he got the ball.

Hopefully next year Osbey will supply another big threat and we
will bring in another ballhandler.

That being said, Charlie Greene( ref evaluator) and John Underwood
should be embarrassed by the job done yesterday. But they will
stick their heads in the sand until it all goes away.
