Fran on Niang

Jesus, Niang is a great college player and seems like a good dude. He deserves the praise he gets. Its not Buddy gets disrespected.

what is so hard about accepting that Niang is a very good college player? Niang made tough shots, easy shots, every shot. He was the goods.
Exactly....Niang is a baller and he was on last night. I don't take it as disrespectful to Buddy or others if Niang got mentioned a little more last night....he was the best player on the court.

So Big 12 POTW is now how we distinguish what players should get pregame praise?

Some OU fans have the biggest chip on their shoulders. Both football and basketball. Act like the world is out to get them and OU. I don't understand that. Would make me want to stop following sports as closely if I felt that way.

Of course not, but media focus -- and weekly awards -- tend to go to the players who are having the best seasons. And by virtually every measure, Buddy's having a significantly better season than Niang is.

Niang had a terrific game last night (as I have stated repeatedly), but entering the game, he was an odd choice for Fran to go on and on about. He's not having as good a season as Buddy (so far), his team is not having as a good a season as OU (so far), and the game was in Norman.

And I don't generally think OU gets short shrift from the national media, so don't try to paint me with that broad brush. I think Fran and Fran alone has a weird thing about OU, which some have explained as having to do with his son playing (walking of) at OU and Fran wanting to appear unbiased. As I have stated many times, there's no one I'd rather see call a college basketball game than Fran; he's my favorite color guy -- as long as OU is not one of the two teams competing.

Having repeatedly stated my case (and having it repeatedly mischaracterized and/or misunderstood), I'll now move on from this discussion.

I think it's debatable who is having the better season so far. Buddy is obviously averaging more points per game, but there are other aspects to basketball, and ppg is a poor indicator of how well a guy is scoring it.

They are both really good players, so much so, that I'd say it is really difficult to try to distinguish between the two.

Niang made some fantastic shots. Fran's son, James, LOVES the U of O, and so does Fran because of that. Maybe he is overly cautious. No big deal.

I'm with skyvue here. As intelligent as Fran is, he was painful to listen to. Niang is amazing and certainly deserving of praise, but every single time he scored, Fran would make a comment like "WOW! If you don't have this guy on your All-America team, you're nuts! He's the best offensive player in the country! If I'm building a team, I start with him!" And when Buddy did anything, Fran simply said something like "nice move". Fran even said buddy had a "quiet 17 points" at one point. The ONLY reason it was quiet was him.

I love playing ISU. I think we have been nearly equally matched the past two seasons and the guys are so seasoned and know each other well. It's so fun to watch. But if you tuned into the game yesterday with very little knowledge of the two teams, you would've been led to believe that OU was not the same caliber team as ISU.

The reason it was a quiet 17 points was bc he didn't get it in spurts like he usually does, and he took a lot of shots to get it. Buddy has been getting a ton of love nationally, and when Fran does other games I've noticed he usually mentions buddy as a wooden candidate & Cousins as the most underrated player.

It's ok for their main focus not to be an OU player when the other team has a stud as well. I actually believe they might have done it to hype up the game even more. Outside the big12 I don't know how many people realize how good Iowa st is. Trying to give Iowa state some love just makes our win that much better, especially since Niang went off.

Niang is a really bad defender and always has been.

One helluva an offensive player though.

I had no problems with Fran or the play-by-play guy. They were both so much better than any broadcast with Dickie V.

Cant wait to hear the Perry Ellis, Wayne Selden slobber from Dickie V tomorrow.

Plus, how many times will Dickie list the Phog as a primetime college basketball arena. (It is, but he will say it 10 times).

Niang may not be better than Buddy, but last night he was worlds more efficient. I believe he shot around 60% from the field. Buddy needs to have better shot selection if we want to win something this year.

Buddy has been one of the most efficient scorers in the country. Off nights will happen.

He's in the top 5 scoring in the Ncaa with the highest fg% among the other guards in the top 5....

Forgot to add he had the highest in the top 10 with 49.4 % from three. These were probably before last night but again that's one of 12 W's.

You know, espn did just spend the entire previous week in Hawaii making buddy the story, maybe they just wanted to showcase someone else.

Since Buddy was jacking up shots from all over the floor, Niang was the best player on that court yesterday. He's certainly no defensive stalwart, but Fran was only drooling over his offensive capabilities...and we had no answer for him whatsoever. I had no issues with Fran's comments since Niang backed it up. If we don't want to hear Fran raving about him next time, then it's up to the OU players to do a better job on him.

Sure we did our answer was to win the game

I don't have a chip on my shoulder, I just thought the Niang stuff was a bit over the too. Buddy is doing more on the season than Niang Spangler had teeny points and aptwelve rebounds most of the things said about Spangler were negative or Nuetral at best Such as he won't take that shot because he missed it the first time

Denver, with all due respect, anyone reading your post for the first time would never think you're an attorney :D

I'm just having some fun...

Would you prefer I use a keyboard? I would but I don't have one at home. Hunt and peck with auto correct on a cell phone and tablet is challenging Even if you noticed an error it is a hassle to correct without a mouse.
