Frank Martin is a douche

Martin certainly has his faults, but I like the way he compliments the opposing team's players when they outplay his Wildcats. On the flip side, I don't approve of him calling out his own players by name.

If he's not a breath of fresh air, he's different, to say the least.

I might make jokes about Martin all the time, but as a coach, I damn well respect the man. He's brought life back into my second favorite program and that just makes the conference more fun when more teams are competitive

It seems like he is a good guy. He just doesn't come across well to the casual viewer (especially at halftime).

I really like Martin. After the game in Norman, he took about 30 seconds on each of our players to really talk to them and tell them how well they played, etc. You rarely see a coach do that. That really impressed me. Yeah, he is very intense, but man I respect that guy like crazy.

Martin is an original. He strays from the cookie cutter mold of coach speak and stock answers. That quality is easily appreciated.

However, his long term trajectory as a coach may not be as rosy as his start. Early success is a poor teacher. He was an AAU coach that Huggins brought in because he was well connected to some top recruits.

He was never prepared to be a high level coach. He was blessed with top flight players early on and did a good job with them. That is it.

Agreed. Winning with really good players has a way of covering up for any weaknesses. Get on a losing streak and the honeymoon could be over in a hurry.

IMO, there's a lot to like about Frank Martin. His teams play hard and they play tough defense. That makes him an ok coach in my book. But if the losses start to come in bunches, his frank, short anwers to questions in interviews will not be received well by the KSU masses. The rash of complaints on that goofball web site someone posted a link to after the game last night is evidence of that.
