What a turnaround!

OU goes from a recruiting NIGHTMARE with the three AAs jumping ship at the last minute, which put OU in a HORRIBLE situation to recruit, but OU and Capel pull a full grown rabbit out of a speedo worn by Tiny Gallon :)vitale) by signing just as a talented roster as last year's on paper.

And, they are actually ALL QUALIFIED and appear to be HUMBLE!

Just Freak'n Amazing!!!

No need to yell.:ez-laugh:

But yes, I'm glad that it seems we got the whole attitude thing taken care of.

Getting rid of the bad apples is just 1/2 of it. How does Capel pull in such great talent in basically three months without expecting the attrition headache?

He is definitely a bigtime recruiter, and I hope he gets that translated on the court soon.

After the season ended and it seemed apparent that TMG was gone. I was kinda holding out hope that we get either WW or Gallon back at first. But as we saw that Keith Gallon was leaving I think that cleaning house was the best way to go. Keep the guys that want to play ball here and actually be a team. And I think we've done that this offseason and it'll be better for the program than it would have been if we somehow got those 3 back. I have a feeling if we even had Gallon and TMG back we would have a really poor season.

This post seemed a little excessive

You obviously have a short memory. The basketball program was in the WORST position it's ever has been in "talent-wise" with the AAs jumping ship with little notice since prior to Billy Tubbs.

Who would have thought Capel was going to not only sign, but have this 2010 class as deep as it is, and on campus with only 75 days to put it together.

That's Freak'n Amazing!

Heisman,

I love your enthusiasm and tend to agree with you. I'm always overly optomistic and think we could be pretty decent this year. I just hope that coach gives everyone that could be a contributor enough PT before conference play so that we can have some fairly decent depth and be a factor during the conference season (not saying we really have a chance to win it, but at least be a factor).

not exactly how you see this as a talented roster as last year, but congrats on your optimism.

More talented depth all around.

Who exactly did we have that was so talented? We had a few guys that didn't really want to be here. I don't call that talented.

Those are two unrelated things. Whether or not players wanted to be here has no bearing on what their talent is/was. You might as well be saying: "We sure did have some guys that like broccoli. I don't call that talented."

Ummm, this time last year we were calling it, myself included, the most talented class OU had ever signed.
I agree that what Capel has done in the last 3 months is remarkable but I don't see how anyone at this point can call this roster "more talented".
Pledger, Fitz, Hardrick & Cade are the only guys we've seen play a D1 game.
I think this team will be a better "team" but no way is it more talented today.

I would tend to agree with this assessment but I'd much rather have a better "team" than more talent. (Guess that's kind of a Captain Obvious statement, huh?)

I think it'll be a lot more fun to watch even if we don't do much better as far as wins and losses. Plus I think these kids will be easier and more fun to root for.

I totally agree. I think this team will be far less talented but a much better team. I don't see much natural "talent" on this team...but who cares if they come together and form a better team.

Except not liking broccoli wouldn't impact their performance on the court and their work ethic off it.

Unless Coach Capel was offering broccoli as a reward for good play and effort, which would be an odd approach.

But lots of things affect on-court performance (injuries, etc.). That doesn't make those things "talent." I agree that a player's unhappiness about a situation can affect performance negatively. But that has no bearing on what their talent level is.

You're right, of course. But when a team (especially a handful of ballyhooed players) underachieves as much last year's squad did, one reacts against the notion that they're as talented as all that. It's easy to come around to feeling that talent is as talent does.

This may sound crazy, but I think we're about to find out that this group of guys is more talented as a team than last years team. I really think this group of guys will come together better. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!

I agree and I think last year was a bit of a fluke in that you can't possibly get a worse combination of players that it is really hard to get so many guys on a roster that just really don't want to play at that level like they did last year.
