Fred Hoiberg

It's scary to think that Nebraska has never won an NCAA Tournament game. Let that sink in. Since Northwestern won their first a couple years back, I'm not sure any other P-5 school is still "o-fer". They have had their chances, most notably in 1994 when they were a #3 seed led by Eric Piatkowski. They actually sent 6-7 players to the NBA back in the 1990s (Tyrun Lue an Mikki Moore were a couple others).

I'd like to think Hoiberg will get them a few wins...but finishing in the top half of the Big 10 most years would seemingly be the high-end goal. It was a great hire for Nebraska, but I'm not seeing where he was the second best coach in the Big XII when he was at ISU. Self and Huggins are or will be in the HOF, so I have no idea how anyone else could be #2.

Well, I don't completely disagree with the notion that Huggins was the second best coach, so I don't want to hop on that train at full speed. One thing I can't help but point out, though, is that after Hoiberg's first year, Huggins never once finished above Hoiberg in conference.

1. A university or NBA team could pay that, not saying they would, but it doesn't have to come out of Hoiberg's pocket.
2. It's still strange that Hoiberg would agree to it. Did he have no better offers? There were myriad reports linking him to UCLA, which has now lost at least its 1st 2 choices. They didn't want him? Was he that desperate? It's been reported he doesn't like to recruit. Strange.

Is that a crazy buyout? I really don't know, but it sounds similar to Dixon's. Wasn't his 8M after 3 years? Granted, Dixon's was a big enough issue to scare even UCLA away, which I imagine is no small task.

Hoiberg was born in Lincoln, so I imagine this was one of his top choices. It's one of the best/most loyal fanbases, and the expectations are virtually non-existent.

What’s old Hoibergs record in ncaa tourney, must have missed his final 4 appearance....could care less about meaningless big 12 tourney

Did Kruger go to a Final 4 in his first five seasons? Tubbs? Sampson? Coach K? Wright? Calhoun? Boeheim?

I get it your ol hoibergs PR agent....how’s that .500 NCAA record you forgot, after all that great success in the lustrous big 12 tourney

I just don't get the unnecessary snarkiness here. He disagreed so you decided to be a jerk. Why? There was no reason.

We're OU fans talking hoops. We can't do this without the constant snark? Does everyone always have to agree with you? If so, maybe the internet isn't the best place for you.

Hoiberg - good coach/great people skills. His strengths go beyond the stats. not saying he's a god or anything ... just that someone who the media fancies can do a lot good for a school. Fred owns the intangibles category.

Fred Hoiberg on accepting Nebraska basketball job: 'There is great potential for the future'

The 46-year-old Hoiberg was born in Lincoln and is the grandson of Jerry Bush, Nebraska’s basketball coach from 1954 to 1963.

“I can’t express how excited I am to be back on the sidelines and to be coaching at a university that means a lot to my family and me,” Hoiberg said in a press release. “Lincoln is a special place for our family. I was born in Lincoln, my grandfather Jerry Bush was the head coach at Nebraska, my other grandfather was a longtime professor there, and my parents are proud graduates of the University of Nebraska.

“Nebraska has always felt like a second home.”
