in the conference. Has that ever happened anywhere?

Hard to watch for sure. It would be one thing if they were getting blown out every night, but with the exception of Baylor they're leading at some point in most of these games.

:facepalm

We just can't close games out. It's very rough to watch since so many of these games are winnable.

Yep. That was a long night. Glad Applebee's was open. I'm off to bed.

I was actually really impressed with the first half. Even though they pulled their usual dumb stuff(frivolous turnovers, etc) the defense seemed to be working, they were team rebounding well and some guys were getting good shots. OU made 16 field goals in the first half, which in a road conference game is good. Then, not sure what happens in the second half(7 field goals), whether it's the other team adjusting or OU wetting their pants. The flow and confidence they seemed to have in the first half were completely gone. Back to the point guard dribbling around in circles while the other 4 standing there with their popcorn. Inexplicable.

Shepherd--I've been excited about what he brought to the table in his first two starts. Aside from giving the offense a good flow and pace he was making field goals, a few threes, and free throws. He was scoring from the PG position which is a nice bonus. He was getting some steals here and there.. Well, he had an average game against Baylor and a rough game last night and looked almost like a deer in headlights. No FGs in the last two games. Auburn and Memphis didn't pressure the ball as much but the Big 12 teams are. I'm still on his bandwagon and think(hope) he'll continue to improve.

James--I don't know what to say that hasn't already been said.

Odomes--I said it awhile back he is a scoring hole in the lineup in a position of scoring need. The OU staff has a great track record of developing guys, but I don't know what they've done with his shot. He was a prolific scorer in HS, but here at OU all his baskets have been dunks and layups, every single one. And I'm happy for those but he is absolutely no threat from outside 5 feet. Teams back off of him like he's some 7 foot 4 center and it's so awkward as you can tell he's thinking "should I shoot it? Nahh!" He plays good D and he's been fighting for boards better lately. But he needs to come off the bench.

Doolittle--Man did he look good... in the first half. He finally was looking aggressive. Then foul trouble, then nothing. Liked what I saw early. OU was getting mismatches with him and I didn't understand why he didn't go up over them. He seemed to try too many moves and then it would get stolen. He has a nice touch, go up over them and fade away Harvey Grant style!

McGusty--He's not as quick as I thought and looks like he's always on the verge of losing the ball on his dribble. But he gets in the lane and finishes, or gets fouled. He can hit the 3. Got 4 or 5 steals. He has potential. I wish coach would start him, or at least play him 30 minutes the rest of the season.

Muni--Who hit him in the nose? Jamuni cracks me up. He is usually this happy go lucky guy who helps everybody(including the other team) up and seems like a positive guy. Man he looked pissed last night. Somehow his nose got blasted and he didn't like it. Hope he continues to cultivate his inside offensive game..

Overall I saw some good signs. Maybe they'll get one of these games. The sad thing is this is probably the easiest road game and they had it right there. But they continue to wet their pants in crunch time and make stupid bonehead plays. I hope they can grow out of it, and keep their confidence.

i agree...good post. nice to read a post that isn't all negative.

I saw some really good things for most of the game. ball movenment was good. defense was good. energy was high. We just need somebody to take games over.

And I'm not sure who hit jamuni's nose but he was pissed...esp after that flop from TCU and then he got another defensive foul call that was questionable.

I thought McGusty was terrible until he hit that 3 late. I never saw him make a shot until that one.

Strong-Moore isn't quite to the Chris Walker level, but he's almost there. I hope he's better than he's displayed so far but going thru the JUCO to Div 1 learning curve, but we will see.

James is much better than he played last night but he seems to lack aggressiveness. Too much attitude and not enough hustle. Buddy definitely didn't rub-off on him very much, or not enough because Buddy was making plays when his shot wasn't falling.

Shepherd looked bad last night but overall I really like him and his game.

The largest issue from the last 3 years though is how much we miss Spangler. We have zero physical rebounders and nobody who can get the rebound and then get it back in the hole. Jamuni and Lattin just are not that type of player.

Syracuse is also having a bad year this year and their roster is filled with elite prospects.

Guys, don't get down on this young bunch I think they are getting there but have a ways to go. I'm convinced that Woodard is the key to finishing a game, we don't have the experience that is needed to control the end of the game. For 35 minutes these kids played hard and did what was necessary but at the end when TCU put pressure on them they fell apart. This year is gone but the future is bright, I will say that I don't believe that, the young man's name escapes me, the new guard with 3 names, anyway I don't believe he is the answer to the future. OU still needs to bring in a true guard and I think the kid from Norman may be the answer if they can get him.

They'll figure it out. Teams have to learn how to win those games and they usually do it by losing several until they figure it out. The notion that we can just throw some freshmen, a sophomore who played 22% of the team's minutes last year, a junior, and a juco guy on the court and close out Big 12 teams with no problem is ridiculous (not saying you've said that, but many have).

It's just going to take time and we can either be patient with it or act like 6 year olds who didn't get their way every time we lose one.

McGusty played his best game, by far, last night. He was very good.

Your opinion of James is clownish. His shooting is in a big-time slump but it hasn't at all affected his effort. That you think it has is ridiculous.

:facepalm

Really?

A face palm for saying I like seeing OU's team build itself from the bottom-up?

What exactly do YOU get from college basketball? Because if you dont like seeing a team grow from the ground up then I have NO clue why you bother commenting on OU basketball.

I understand what you mean, cool, but I don't like seeing ou hit rock bottom especially this far into a coach's tenure. This team is on pace to be one of the worst in 30+ years and the schedule isn't getting any easier. Our recruiting class right now is not good and trae young probably isn't too excited about the product we are putting out there on the court and in the stands right now.

It's fun to watch the process, but not when the process here wins as many games as the 76ers process two years ago. 10-20 basketball is NOT a "fun " rollercoaster to be on

What happens is that they stop running the offense. One guy dribbles around and passes to another guy who does the same and if they don't turn it over they take a bad shot to beat the clock. Signs of a young team lacking the confidence you need to win.

I'm with CoolM on this one. My biggest concern is that Lattin and James are not taking the lead like I hoped they would. We seem to get good stretches from most of the guys and then they disappear. We should continue to improve as they learn their roles and develop more confidence.

If all you can tolerate is a top 5 team then you may need to follow a team like Kentucky. with their history of cheating and mr. teflon coach who has cheated twice and only those left behind suffered, you can always count on a lot of wins. If you need that to be a fan be may guest.

People are overreacting. We will be OK if woodard comes back.

Christian James scares me though. I was never a big fan of lattin's game so I wasn't expecting a lot out of him, but I thought James would be All big 12 level this year

James is lucky to be on OU because he wouldnt start at any other big 12 school.

In fact, what OU player outside of Woodard would start any where else?

That in fact is the problem. Except I hear 'talent' thrown around alot...we have some untapped potential but talent we do not

I don't think that is fair at all.

For all his struggles, he still is averaging 12 ppg and shooting 50% from three....and is still a sophemore.

There is a lot of talent on this team. just need experience. Mcgusty, doolittle, shepard, james are all talented guys
