I'm glad the mythical PM hates playing freshmen trope is already being thrown out before a game has been played lol
Northweather redshirted. Oweh didn't play a meaningful minute till late January, then started the last few weeks.CJ Noland...13 mpg
Cortes...12 mpg
Mason...6 mpg
Oweh...13 mpg
Schroder...4 mpg
Uzan...29 mpg
Northweather...9 mpg
Cooper..5 mpg
Cole...zero
Based on what we know about these players and how they have performed in subsequent seasons (whether with OU or somewhere else), the only one that stands out is Mason. Too early to tell on Cooper or Cole.
Obviously I was using NOrthweathers rs freshman numbers.Northweather redshirted. Oweh didn't play a meaningful minute till late January, then started the last few weeks.
AbsolutelyReally curious to see if Northweather has taken any kind of jump or not. We need more than a shooter at the 5.
And if he's just a shooter he better have taken a leap after last year. He shot very meager for a "knock down shooter."Absolutely
It helps my case because if Oweh was good enough to start games in the best conference in America down the stretch, he sure as hell was ready to receive meaningful minutes sooner than that, especially considering the fact that our 2022-2023 roster might have been the least athletic team we have ever fielded.Obviously I was using NOrthweathers rs freshman numbers.
So PM started playing a freshman meaning full minutes in the middle of conference play? How does this help your stance?
PM has no problem playing freshman if they are ready to play. To say otherwise just shows your lack of objectivity
Sure doesn't seem like he has. He was playing a key rotational role the last month of last season, and now seems to be outside the top 10. He is barely mentioned in most of the columns, even by homers like Lusk.Really curious to see if Northweather has taken any kind of jump or not. We need more than a shooter at the 5.
lol you have it ass backwards. And I have no doubt that he will play freshmen IF HE THINKS they are ready. But after three years of seeing him struggle to put together a roster than can compete against good opponents, I have zero faith in his ability to evaluate. I guess we will start learning tonight how Low and Oweh play under better coaching.
So either (a) Fears is really good but Moser is being Moser and refusing to start a freshman because he is stuck in 1970, or (b) or Fears was given a fair shot to beat out the upperclassmen and wasn’t good enough. I know everyone will spin this as no big deal, it’s just one game, it doesn’t matter who starts, etc, but given Moser’s track record with freshmen and the hype surrounding Fears, this isn’t a good sign.
How about from January 17 to January 21? Lots of change?lol you have it ass backwards. So comical
A lot changes from August to January for freshman
He started in the scrimmageWhy did people think Fears would start…especially game 1?
I had it as since the portal close/roster became complete.
Duke
Kobe
Jadon (Goodine takes this spot due to injury)
Jalon
Sam
Obviously, you start your season with experienced guys. I don’t blame Moser for that. It’s Fears’ job to unseat someone. He’ll get his chance, duh.
Anyone scout Lindenwood? Lol
All I know is Reggie Bass is likely their best player. They’re trying to take basketball seriously but they have a tough road in the OVC.
Because generally speaking, the best players start. If the reports about this kid are close to accurate, he is far and away our best guard. And it’s not his job to unseat anyone. First off, we have zero returning guards, so there is no one to unseat. Second of all, no one on our entire roster except arguably Moore has accomplished nearly enough to come into the season as a no-questions-asked starter. I just don’t get why our coach and fans seem so stuck in a bygone era. Start the best players. Don’t play these silly games of making him come off the bench for a few games to “earn his stripes.” If he is better on November 4 than the older guys, start him. If he isn’t, we are in trouble. Why did people think Fears would start…especially game 1?

I get the point you are trying to make. But I think Oweh got playing time do to an injury or player sitting out and he took advantage forcing the decision. I remember media saying he was not practicing well before that. How about from January 17 to January 21? Lots of change?
I don’t remember an injury, but to your point, I think that’s part of what worries me. Some guys play better in games than practice and you just have to throw them out there and find out. But by all indications, Fears hasn’t been a poor practice player. This feels like Moser being reluctant to start a true freshman in game one, and/or him being too worried about what might go wrong instead of just realizing that his upside is too high to force him to come off the bench.I get the point you are trying to make. But I think Oweh got playing time do to an injury or player sitting out and he took advantage forcing the decision. I remember media saying he was not practicing well before that.
Kobe and Duke are established collegiate players, that was my point. They're the "safest" bets to start the season for a coach on the hot seat.Because generally speaking, the best players start.
