I think using one anecdotal example is always a poor way to make an argument. As an example: the very same Tar Heels were first four out three years ago. Did the committee not care about TV ratings that year?

I think the 2024-2025 UNC example is a pretty obvious example of mixed incentives, especially with Cunningham having a direct monetary incentive to see UNC in the tournament but linked below are abstracts for two academic papers which argue the committee has historically favored teams with larger fan bases and direct committee representation.

First, congrats to the team and coaches on a well played and coached game. Proud of the kids and coaches. Say what you will about the team, they haven't quit. If anything, they have just gotten gritter, tougher and given more effort and focus.

Anyone know if Acuff is out of his boot? This, and the health of Pack and Davis, are the keys. Worry about the kids legs and focus a little. 3d game in three nights is tough.

Delicious crow i'll eat. Thought they'd choke this game away. I want him gone, but you have to give Moser credit for keeping them together and getting them to play like this, at least now. I'm going to place my desperation for him to be gone aside for a weekend and just enjoy. Thankful for him beating rivals that he hadn't touched two out of the last three.
