Not OU-related, but still big news...

Maryland coach Gary Williams is retiring.

Williams, who has spent the past 22 seasons at his alma mater and won the national title in 2002, will make it official on Friday afternoon, sources told FOXSports.com.

Williams has gone to 14 NCAA appearances in the past 18 seasons, including seven Sweet 16’s.

He has won 461 games in his tenure at College Park. The Terps were 19-14 this past season.

Williams began his head coaching career at American before spending four seasons at Boston College and three at Ohio State.

His career coaching mark is 668-380 in 33 seasons.

I recall speculation from a couple years ago that Gary Williams may get canned, and that Capel would bolt to Maryland. Capel to Maryland . . . :fitz?

I would boycott CBS over that if i could. There is no way i can just not watch the NCAA tourney though

Funny photo for the Gus Johnson fans. Back in April Gus called the Juan Manuel Lopez-Orlando Salido fight. Lopez was the champion and huge betting favorite. Salido TKO'd him in shocking fashion. Look at Gus in the bottom left corner of the pic, calling the end of the fight.

Sean Miller to Maryland according to numerous reports. Pastner to Arizona?

i'd be surprised to see Miller leave "u of a"....for maryland.

in the Pac, you have a chance to be #1....in the ACC the Terps are always hind teat behind Duke and UNC.

one of my fave OU hoops moments is beating down Maryland at home in 01. if Dixon and Blake can hit a 3, it's a different ball game....but i maintain Ace came of age bodying up on Lonny Baxter that night. i always liked Baxter....him, ACe, and Sam Clancy at USC were undersized posts with nice post moves.....but the NBA doesn't have that position. Tisdale, too. the 6' 7"-6' 9", low post spin moves. that's good basketball, not the NBA....but good basketball.

Gary Williams also had good teams at Ohio State and BC in the Big East heyday with Rollie, John Thompson, Lou Carneseca, Boeheim, etc.

They did win a national title at Maryland in the last decade. But I would stay at Arizona also. Especially with what they have coming back.
