Saw a few posts that he was being considered when we hired Capel. Don't know if it was true or if he was even contacted.

But it would have been real interesting. I have always favored management skills and the ability to see big picture long and short term over technical knowledge. So I probably feel more optimistic that it would have worked out. Of course Geno would have been taking a big gamble. We would have been taking no more of a gamble than we did.

To me Geno is at or near the top in the three critical skills a college athletic coach must have. 1) x and o skills, 2) recruiting skills and 3) player development skills. I don't know what he did to raise UConn to the top of the womens basketball world but it must have been one hell of a story.

Of course, OU is my favorite team but UConn is my favorite team to watch.

I remember reading that after the search was over. It surprised me at the time.

Joe C. would have been run out of town on a rail if he had hired a women's coach to get the program out of the ditch.

I would love to see him go to a men's program, following his success or failure in men's basketball would be quite compelling.

I think Geno would be just as successful as a men's coach, although there is one reason that he might fall on his face. Geno's training is more befitting of that of a Navy Seal than of a basketball team. He instills a discipline that would be the envy of any special forces unit. His players play the entire game, with only occasional relief as he only plays about six or seven players to any extent. They don't make mistakes. Women's teams tend to have more turnovers than men's teams as they have to work for shots due to their lack of ability to play above the rim. UConn doesn't even commit turnovers at a normal rate. They graduate players, only to fill their roles with players who have been relatively incompetent for three years. They become UConn players. I suspect that Geno would have considered a Spartan soft.

edit: didn't make the key point. I suspect that most males would quit and go the pro route rather than stay for that.

I'm not sure a lot of males would defect. One of the most stimulating things in life is to achieve near your capability. Geno gets that from his players.
