Since her commit thread was takin over by Negativity. I would
Like to say Welcome to the Sooner Fam!
Looks like she will take over the scoring guard
Role when aaryn leaves. Who can't be excited about that?

And her name is pronounced "Ja-Leesa" "Pen-Zo"

Welcome aboard Gileysa! (I would have gotten the last name right but whiffed on the first name - thanks for the tip!)

Mystery at this point wouldn't the most likely player to be the shooting guard with the most minutes next year be Peyton Little?

I don't mean this to be negative statement on Gileysa...but Peyton was a top 25 type recruit and by next year she will be a 3rd year sophomore so I was thinking she had a good chance to start 3 years and average double figures all 3 years.

I've seen one place that listed her at SF. At 5-11, she's not the size of Vegas, and she's pretty solid inside. She led Puerto Rico in rebounds by a wide margin, as well as averaging 4.4 steals per game.

As Soonergrad and I both posted, she was on the ALL-FIBA team:

SG Gileysa Penzo
G Asia Durr
G/F Katie Samuelson
F Lauren Cox
C Lauren Yearwood (Canada)

That's kind of a who's who, and I had never heard of her. But, I did see one article about a Puerto Rico game that said that she was a great player. I can't tell from the stats that I've seen what kind of shooter she is. Her rebounding and steal statistics kind of jump out at you.

Anyone on that All-FIBA team you wouldn't want to have? That's a pretty strong indicator of her talent.

Thank you! Welcome aboard, Gileysa!!!

Glad to have you, Gileysa. You're going to love it here.

Might add that it is pretty incredible that when you arrived here you were only 16. Happy late 17th birthday in June. And it is great that you speak Spanish to Hispanics and Latinos that live here, I am sure they appreciate it.
