All you, and there were tons, Lon haters and critics give it up to Lon. Great coaching today with the zone and going to Doo etc etc etc. I have been saying through the losing streak that it was NOT Lon’s fault as he was getting them into the right spots but the PLAYERS were not executing - well today the players executed Just enough of the plays to win. Still a TON of stupid plays by our players but we survived but we won’t if they keep making non high basketball IQ plays.

Reynolds taking 3 shots in a row late in the game and not even coming close and not giving the ball to Doo or CJ _ DUMB

Even with the great game Doo had he lost 3 defensive rebounds he had in his big hands to a small players by Not protecting it

How many times did our big men try to lay in a shot drown low and get it blocked instead of rising and dunking (Manek did late thank the Lord)

I could go on and on and on, these seniors are stil Not playing like seniors

Bienemy with 1:34 left and 22 seconds left on play clock driving in to traffic and getting the ball stolen (he is a freshman)

I agree.....Lon did an outstanding job today. Migrating from man defense to the 2/3 and then to a hybrid matchup zone was a great game management. This needs to be our plan moving forward on defense. I think it can be really effective when you keep switching defenses. In the earlier game with TCU, they had their way with us for a good part of the night (and Noi's 3-pointers)...and they looked out of synch all game long today.

Reynolds drives me crazy with his incredibly low situational awareness and his FT choking. This team still has moments of nonexistent Bball IQ and careless decision-making, but as a whole, it was little bit better today.

The zone will get the most credit and it was hugely important but it's clear they also spent a lot of time in practice working on getting the ball to Doolittle & Manek down in the low block and letting them either score or pass to cutters and/or shooters. They got layups, short 2's from cutters, and open 3's off of screens just by passing out of the low block bc those 2 are pretty good passers. Obviously , they also got a lot of points from the low block as well. The offense was so much better today than it's been in a while.

It's a pretty bad day for the Doolittle-isn't-very-good crowd. He was fantastic today.

The zone is only as good as you make it.

Recognized our switch up m/m was sucking.

Good for him...sorry to be a "downer" but why did it take 4 straight losses to see that.

Yes..players actually played well..offense moved the ball and moved without the ball.

Still going to wait til end of season to give my so important final eval.

I haven't been particularly happy with the coaching staff since Buddy left. That said, I like the fact this team has not quit. It is limited for sure, but playing hard. They make too many mistakes that well-coached teams should not make in February - but I appreciate their effort since the Baylor debacle a few weeks back.

I agree with all of that. It is really quite amazing to me that they have not quit and that is a credit to Lon. I scratch my head when I watch them but they are trying.

I couldn’t agree more about our defense! The switch to the match up zone kept TCU off balance most of the game. Kudos to Lon! I just wish he would use it more often. This team is so much better in a zone, I don’t understand why he stubbornly clings to a straight man to man?

Nothing wrong with a man defense. It’s that we have too many players (I don’t need to name them, everyone here knows exactly who they are by now) who can’t guard their man. Our help defense is not as good as it used to be without a shot blocker on the floor. Playing a zone can be a solution to those weaknesses in some situations.

Great, much needed win! So happy for our players!!!

It's amazing what can happen when you actually make open shots and not have dudes have "career nights" against us (abandon and the other freshman Baylor guard)...and actually have our opponent MISS some key shots!! We also made some key FT's...unlike the other night!!

And guess what...LK is the same coach he has been the last 2-3 weeks!!! Players finally MADE shots they are capable making!

Give Lon credit for one win?! FOH. He honestly did not anything special today. The only thing I felt was better was the defensive switches. I feel it was more about TCU not taking advantage than it was anything else, though. Noi was also out. Glad they won, but it wasn't a rout or anything. Chill.

Man I must have missed where being

4-0 against osu and tcu
0-9 vs rest of big 12

Is a big success story. I'm happy we won today and stopped some of the bleeding, but some of yall out here acting like we won the damn league

Absolutely. Remember, every loss is the end of the world. But wins are pretty much meaningless and only occur because the opponent sucks or messes up.

I'm very pleased with today's win.

We should've gone to zone the minute McNease hurt his ankle. I detest all the 1-5 switching we try to do (not even real crazy about 1-4), and I'd bet a large sum that we win in Austin and Morgantown playing the good zone we played today.

I hope we can build on it.

Lon didn’t do anything he hasn’t already done before on the losing streak. Players made more open shots then they have. Lon has been & is still a good coach. They’ve tried zone almost every game but it hasn’t worked as well as it did today. Not having a good 5 man & a consistent creator has hurt.

All the Big Monday games have made 8t difficult to make any major changes bc there's always been such a short turnaround from the Saturday game to the Monday game. Plus, there was a 30 point win over Vandy that sort of masked the team's problems. Add to that the fact that the offense has been the team's primary problem this season and the team's solid man-to-man defense has kept the team afloat.

I've always thought this team's length and athleticism would make a 3-2 or 1-3-1 pretty potent but Lon has never really been a zone guy and the man-to-man has worked so well so far.

I gave Lon credit earlier....but let's not salivate over the tremendous job he's done during the conference portion...because it hasn't been the case. I think Lon can coach really well at times...but a segment of coaching is finding the right guys to get the job done. And more specifically.....having the right guys in the right place in your system to have success within your plan. To be candid, this season (in conference) has been a disaster thus far. I would love nothing more than for this group to prove me wrong.....and find a way to right the ship. And I'm hopeful that they can.....but I'm not optimistic.

Excellent points...but I always give props to any coach whose team does not give up in spite of losing game after game.

Congratulations to Coach Kruger and the Sooners. Any road win is a very good win, and that was a good one at TCU. Also, congratulations to the team for continuing to fight and play hard. That is certainly to their credit.

Lon is the same coach he was two weeks ago. Lon is the same coach he was two years ago.

Here is an update on Oklahoma's Big-12 Record since Buddy graduated:

5-13 ... 2016-17
8-10 ... 2017-18
4-9 .... 2018-19

17-32 .. Total

Given recent history, a 7-11 finish this season would be par for the course. But, I would be HAPPY with a 7-11 record at this point. It is somewhat SAD to come to the realization that an Oklahoma basketball fan could be "HAPPY" with a 7-11 conference record. But that is where we are. Who gets credit for THAT?

*************

Also, looking forward, a 9-9 conference record is normally considered mediocre; but if OU can accomplish that next season, then Lon will earn a grade of "Exceeds Expectations."

Yuuuuuge win!

If Lon gets to the tournament this year that would be maxing out this roster especially without Jamuni.
