Grayson Allen

Anyone surprised the indefinite suspension lasted one game? And he didn't even come off the bench, he started.

With Capel running the show for the next 4 weeks figured he would be back sooner rather than later, but one game?

Pffft

That was Coach K, not Capel.

Absolutely, but think Coach K isn't going to put Capel in the best position possible to win.

There is more than one article about Coach K getting Duke headed in the right direction after the VT loss and that included getting Allen back before he left for back surgery

I just figured he would sit more than one game (a game they lost)

I wasn't surprised Coach K used the bandaid approach to an open wound either. Most coaches are more concerned with their win/loss record than with important life lessons. I'm betting the suspension would have been longer if it had occurred early in the season when Duke was playing the cupcakes on their schedule. ACC games are another matter entirely.

I could understand a one game suspension for Allen if this had been his first offense. But, the third based on the initial report? He didn't learn anything from the first two, and I doubt if he'll learn anything from the third.

First offense should be handled internally without anyone hearing about it. No suspension.

Second offense should be one game

Third offense. Atleast 3 games.

All my opinion of course. I don't see it as that serious of offense honestly. Yes he tripped some guys, but it isn't like he flat out punched them, etc. It does show some concerning issues though

I agree with the three suspension levels you outlined. Thing is, that was Allen's third offense, so I assume we're on the same page when I say his suspension should have been longer.

His behavior on the bench was/or should have been embarrassing enough to Coach K and Duke to stand on its own when a decision was made about his "punishment." It also speaks to the possibility of a deeper problem (anger management for one) that needs to be addressed.

I hope this young man learns from his mistakes and begins anew with the process of growing up instead of acting like a five year old. Time will tell if a one game suspension was enough to get his attention.

Guess he didn't want to be one upped by Brooks :ez-laugh:

SB Nation - Allen

And yes the ACC ruled it inconclusive, but that is a high backwards leg kick for a minor screen that they see on a regular basis

wow, that looks pretty sketchy to me

Agreed. Looks like a student of the Draymond Green school of faking off-balance kicks who failed the course.

I can see why what Allen did was ruled "inconclusive." But it sure looked like n intentional act to me. Think about it. Was that a natural move, even for a player who loses his balance?
