@GSwaim reported about a hour ago that Gregg Marshall has a fan section in the hoop donors

I texted around after seeing it. it seems he'll be at the head of the cheap rebound shortlist if Buzz asking price is to high

wow...greg swaim...how long did it take him to make that tidbit up I wonder?

seems like a pretty likely candidate at this point. He is a proven winner though so we could do worse, he did a great job at Winthrop, not as good at Wichita.

Lot of talk that while he is a good teacher his teams play real wild at times and he isn't the best in game manager. Has also a dynamic yet sometimes unstable personality... But again he is a winner.

The guy built Winthrop basketball from nothing, taking them to 7 tournaments in 9 years. His win/loss record at Wichita has improved in each of his 4 seasons there.

I have said from the beginning that if we do end up having to go the "mid major" route, then we should choose a guy that has a LONG track record of success. Marshall fits that profile.

I am not enthused. His record is just a ton of one & dones from single bid leagues & no tourney appearances since 06-07

If there is anybody that has the pulse of the OU coaching search it would be Greg Swaim:eddie187_jpg_xs:

I'm really thinking we should just wait for Wichita to lose and just try and hire Marshall and call it a day. No he isn't a homerun candidate but he can coach and I would be pretty confidant that he would have our program turned around within 2 years. His teams play a real aggressive style of defense which I know we could get behind. With all the openings his name is going to be mentioned for a bunch of jobs, may as well strike while the iron is hot.

Advise him to get the best possible assistants who know and are able to recruit Texas and we may have ourselves a nice top level program again soon.

Will be fun watching them on Wednesday against Charleston, those who are curious should check it out. Anybody who saw them destroy Nebraska had to be impressed.

I'd rather have Buzz but Marshall is in my top 3 list of "cheap" hires. I'd be happy about it.

Its bad if we are going after a guy who didnt make it to the tournament...in an average conference.

I don't know about you guys...but I turn to Greg Swaim for ALL of my Sooner Basketball INformation needs.

This would be a "we could have had Gillispie" hire.

Hiring Gregg Marshall would prove to me that OU does not take their basketball program seriously.

WSU plays tomorrow night (Time and TV is TBA). Watch him closely. I have and am not overly impressed with his in-game coaching. Maybe I am wrong? Let's get a few people to watch the game and we can discuss it afterwards.

To me, Marshall is a low risk, low reward type of guy. I don't see him getting OU back to even where Kelvin had us at the end of his tenure, and many folks weren't happy with that.

Can he recruit at all?

Somehow, I don't think Greg Swaim has any good contacts among OU Hoops donors.

It seems as the days wonder along, our expectations of the new OU coach get less & less...
