Griffin's message to fans at Alumni Game

OU should have done a better job of promoting that Blake was going to attend and even play. I attended myself and was pleasantly surprised to learn that Blake would play. I think 5000+ would have shown up to see Blake play.

I thought it was pretty well known that Blake would be there

I must be living under a rock then. Must have been quite a few people living under rocks, because the attendance wasn't very good for a game Blake Griffin was playing in.

It is what it is here. You get used to the fact that if its not OU football related, OU men's sports just do not get the attendance support from the fans. Plenty of people out their that care, but they do not want to go to basketball and baseball games for some reason.

They advertised that Blake would be here but did not specificly say he was playing. I also saw something on espn that stated Blake was playing in a Charity game for another NBA players charity today.

So it was confusing on some scale.

Did Blake throw both of his shoes into the crowd? I only saw him throw one.

It wasn't when he played here either

That's not true.

Attendance was decent for Blake's first year and excellent for his second. We sold out all of conference play and several non-con games. Butts in the seats average was over 11k his second year and the lowest butts in the seats game was 9,600 against nebbish on a Wednesday night.

We kicked the crap out of OSU in attendance during that span (butts in the seats ) and out drew them the year after as well.

I'd love to see the attendance get back to that level.

Don't be so modest, BT. Blake, as well as some pretty darned good players certainly opened the door to a perfect opportunity to put more butts in the LNC seats. But the group you and several other dedicated students started had a lot to do with the increased attendance back then. I know for a fact that the Capables worked their tails off to create more fan support, especially for the lesser games. I still think you guys deserved a recognition plaque for your efforts.

i'm not saying you are wrong, but I find that hard to believe. I was a student blakes second game and lived a half mile from LNC. Didn't miss a home game. There were a lot of times that I shook my head at attendance blakes second year. many times I could get their 5 min before tip off and still be able to walk down to the crimzone and get a spot.

I just went back through all the box scores of the 2009 season and the butts in seats average for the entire year came up to just over 9,100 fans per game. Two games did not have the "estimated attendance" in the box score, so I did a percentage of the big number that was listed based on recollections I have from sitting at the game.

I used to ***** and moan about attendance all the time, but they've made their policies MUCH friendlier over the past few years. I've decided that if you win, and win big, the fans will come. It's just going to take some time to recover from the scorched earth that was Capel's final two seasons. Last year's butts in seats number was pretty rough (6,043) considering the successful season.
