If he stays, we WILL need him to play minutes this year.

If he transfers at this point, I doubt he'd even bother transferring to another D1. So if he's set on transferring, why not try and stick out this season and work on your game, and then go play NAIA or somewhere else next year?

I don't really see this as a big loss. Hamilton's departure opens the door for someone else on our roster this season, plus also gives the staff another scholarship to work with next year.

Sure, that is right. He didn't do himself any favors by not getting his school work wrapped up in time for summer practices and the euro trip. He had made good progress to this point. But, now it is game time and he wasn't quite ready. He seemed to be a nice polite kid and a good worker. I hope things work out for him.

No one was saying much about it. Hamilton and Bennett are room mates and I could have ask him. But, it didn't seem like the thing to do.

If he's not going to get any playing time with our lack of post depth, then he's not a D1 player. Maybe could get in the rotation at one of the bottom 100 teams.

spangler and clark are very much above average fowards ...

Of course. But Clark isn't a true post. Spangler, Bennett, and Hamilton were the only 3 true posts on the roster.
If one of them gets hurt or in foul trouble, we've got big problems. Hamilton was almost certainly going to get minutes based on that alone. Hell, Casey Arent and CJ Washington combined for 500 minutes with Osby and Fitz in front of them 2 years ago. You'd hope Hamilton would be at least as good as those guys, right?

Sounds like he wants things handed to him vs earning it. I've been coaching for the last 20 years at the MS level. This is a problem at their age.

playing time. He was just a big kid and not very mature.
