Visiting OU (again) unofficially today?

I like his game and would love to get him.

He was close to pulling trigger awhile back.

He’s been up and down in Aau. At times struggles against high level athletes.

That's concerning. At the Big 12 level it will be all high level athletes

Same class and position as Bryce Thompson. Not that we can’t or should for that matter sign more than one shooting guard. Just wondering if Hayden Hefner is a back up plan or a primary target for OU?

I like Hefner’s game. He has solid fundamentals and very few weaknesses that I can see.

I'm guessing he's a backup plan for Bryce Thompson. We only have 1 senior (Doolittle) and Polla opened up a spot. That only leaves us 2 scholarships for next year. I just don't see signing 2 shooting guards.

Of course, we have 7 post players.... 6 after Doolittle leaves (Manek, Kuath, Iwuakor, Issanza, Merritt, and Garang). That's too many. I just think we have have transfers like we always do. Honestly, I like all 5 of our current back court players (Harmon, Bienemy, Reaves, Williams, and Hill).

Makes sense to me, usedtobe1. I think we both know Doolittle may not be the only change on our roster after next season. As you correctly pointed out, six post players is too many. Competition for playing time will be intense. That’s a good thing. Except there won’t be enough minutes available to keep everyone happy.

I’m with you on our backcourt players. I not only like all five, I’m anxious to see what they can do when they develop the kind of chemistry I think we’ll have next season. I’d dare say there haven’t been many times over the years when I didn’t wish we could cull one or two.

Ou choose Phipps over Hefner.

Hefner to Gig’em

Good decision. Hefner may be taller, but Phipps is a better athlete and a better shooter. Use the remaining ship on Thompson or a high level transfer.

Phipps is a better athlete? Haven’t seen Hefner so I’m not doubting you, just surprising.

Watch a couple of Trey’s highlight videos and you’ll see what I mean. He’s not going to wow you with fancy spin moves or slam dunks. That’s not his game. He uses an impressive combination of smarts and good handles to make shots in traffic and from beyond the arc.

Guards his size don’t score 42 points in Oklahoma’s 6A State Championship game without an adequate helping of athleticism to compliment his high basketball IQ.

But does Phipps' grandfather have a lake named after him?

I’ve seen him in person a lot, amazing shooter. He’s worth a scholarship (especially if it helps with Thompson) but he’s not a P5 athlete right now & will always be a below average athlete. He’ll have to learn how to guard & how to handle P5 defenders, which I think he will in time.

Also if scoring in 6A was so important then why didn’t OU offer Micah Thomas?

Because Micah was 5’7 and avg 15fts a game. And below avg shooter.

Lol Micah isn’t 5’7, but he also isn’t close to a P5 player. My point is that scoring 42 shouldn’t mean you deserve an OU offer, but Phipps shooting should.

Also why should shooting a lot of FT’s diminish a players game?

Bc d1 kids don’t foul like hs kids. Refs don’t bail kids out like HS.

Micah could play. Big fan. Not a d1 player.
