Hield's improved dribble drive game gets noticed

It was noticeably better. He was more aggressive on getting to the basket

How many times did he lose the ball on the drives though? I'm not saying I think he should stop but I hope he can do better at hanging on to the ball or dish some of those out after the defense collapses.

I agree that Buddy needs to work on his ball security going forward. But, despite the fact that he had four turnovers in last night's game, putting the ball on the floor and attacking the opponent's defense will not only increase his value in the NBA draft, it will give him more open looks from the perimeter when defenders give him more room to shoot.

In his defense, at least one of his TOs was not his fault. A foul when he drove the lane, even the announcers focused in on later, was a "play on" in the eyes of the officials.

That was not a well called game. It's true that OU was the victim more often than Memphis, an all too typical occurrence when you're on the road. But, there were missed calls or no-calls both ways that did not set well with a former high school official like me. Case in point, the fourth foul on the Tiger's best player, Shaq Goodwin, was a horrible call. It came on the heels of his third, and IMO it was all about him protesting that call. It definitely wasn't because he fouled anyone.

It didn't really look better to me. He lost the ball quite a bit

I feel somewhat the same way. Other than, at least he attempted to drive the ball more. Made some nice penetration passes to spot up shooters. He has to get where he doesn't lose the ball in there on the drives. Looked out of control at times.

He looked very good running off Buford's high ball screen against their zone and got the team some great looks out of it. I don't think Hield is the ball handler in that situation last year.

He only had four turn overs in a 30 point, 3 steals, 3 assists, 8 rebounds and 2 blocked shot game playing 35 minutes. As much as he touches the ball, I don't know that four turn overs is all that bad. Additionally, his points almost certainly should have been 32 because there was clearly a break away foul on him.

I am not going to complain about his performance at all.

I agree. I hate turnovers but, with a performance like that, I can certainly accept a few mistakes when he is producing like an All-American.

He has definitely improved. Hopefully TO's for the entire team get reduced.

Denver = The voice of reason. :ez-laugh:

And I actually thought only one (possibly two) of Buddy's turnovers came when he was driving to the basket. Of course, I'm probably wrong.

Plus the time he got tackled in the lane but the ref swallowed his whistle so he didn't foul out the Memphis big man.

That is an excellent point. In reality he only had three turn overs because that was one of them. He literally got hip checked which is a fine defensive move in hockey but not remotely allowed in basketball.
