High school prospect going to jail

I couldn't help but feel sorry for the kid, as he collapsed in tears when learning he'd have to pay for the mistakes he made. But kidnapping and felonious assault are serious crimes that can't be ignored. It's just a shame that he has to learn that the hard way, by destroying what was once a promising future.

I'm betting his sentence will be reduced on appeal. Does he deserve it? That's not for me to say. If I knew all of the details of this case, or if the victim of his abuse was my daughter, I may be saying that he got off too easy.

I just found it ironic that his attorney had not remotely prepared him for what was going to happen. He got the minimum sentences on each count to run concurrently. What I heard seemed like it could not possibly have gone any better. Judges can't just ignore mandatory minimum sentencin guidelines. It is the law. Now you can debate the merits of laws like that all you want but it is the law.

To keep in line with the spirit of this forum I must say:

When I saw the headlines I expected it to be an OSU player. I guess it was a potential OSU player just the wrong OSU.
