Hillbilly Ford - another typical season

This.

I can't wait until we have to hear about how incredible all the athletes at OSU are this coming November because I expect Ford to be even less of a players coach now that the one guy he seemed to get along with Page is gone.

I expect the fate of their incoming freshman to be similar to that of Reger Dowell, Teeng Akol, Roger Franklin, Ibrihima Thomas, Brad Garrett, Malcom Kirkland, Ray Penn, Jarred Shaw, Athony Brown, Torin Walker, Martavius Adams and "Fern" Gulley.

Anthony Brown graduated!

But every single one of those players sucked. That's why they transferred, not one of those players was a good player (save for maybe Adams, who did okay at Ark. State), but I wouldn't say any of those guys would be any more than emergency depth on most teams.

From talent standpoint, osu looks like they are set up better than OU for the next couple of years. From a coaching standpoint, the reverse looks true. We will see though

I think both OK schools will be drastically improved. You guys return everyone and are adding quality depth, a problem that plagued both teams all season.

Your team might make the nit every other year ford is your coach. Nine more years of this for you. :woot

Come next year the NIT just once in the past 4 years would be good for you. You have 42 wins combined the past 3 years. Fords worst 3 seasons of his 4 at OSU he has won 57 combined. You have won 14 conference games the last 3 seasons, Fords worst 3 seasons he has won 22 conf games including multiple top 5 upsets.

You have no room to talk, zero.

Zomg! OU fans no like OSU, must rectify this error on the internet!!!

*insert witty graphic*

Why would he have no room to talk? They are separate points and discussions. One can discuss OSU basketball without discussing OU basketball, one doesn't beget the other.

It reminds me of air brains discussing politics, "hey why is President such and such doing this, look what's happening....response: "who cares look what such and such did 3 decades ago, he did it too!!"

Since Ford has been at OSU; OU has won 3 times as many NCAA games as OSU. Pretty amazing since OU has been awful and decided to fire its coach in this same time frame.

The problem for OSU is that many of their fans look at the job Ford has done and immediately compare it to OU (habitual in nature) and say "eh, looks like he is doing better than the gooners, I see no serious problems here. He is a young coach next year he will get it figured out".

In the end, maybe they are right, we shall see. OSU certainly has talent.

Not surprising when you consider a single transcendent player was the person responsible for all of those wins in a single NCAA tournament run.

Are you kidding me? Where are you getting this?

If OSU fans compare Ford's job to anyone, it's Eddie Sutton.

Go look at orangepower.com and tell me that you think most OSU fans are happy with Ford's performance right now.

I want to start by saying that I respect you Jeff.

I have never been to another schools board, and I doubt that I ever will, so I have no clue what people there are saying about anything. What I am basing my previous post on are my personal interactions with OSU fans and the rationale and attitude of your fellow OSU posters on this board. The reality is that if OU basketball was performing at a high level and OSU just finished a losing season the attitude of the OSU masses would be much different and there would be a sense of urgency, but OU sucks so Ford marches on.

While I will agree that the dissatisfaction with Ford would probably be higher if OU had been better the past few years, I disagree that it is the primary "standard" comparison for OSU basketball.

Ford, and every future OSU coach for that matter, will likely be judged based on one primary standard - the Eddie Sutton standard.

I agree and every year that passes that Sutton Standard will get higher as the memories fade and legend replaces reality. I think it is human nature to remember the highlights more than the mundane periods.

His tenure may have ended badly, but if you ask me, he set a pretty lofty standard by any measure:

In his 15 full seasons he coached (1991-2005), he amassed:

  • 13 NCAA tournament appearances that included 2 Final Fours (1995, 2004), 1 Elite Eight (2000) and 3 Sweet Sixteens (1991, 1992, 2005).
  • 2 Regular Season conference titles (1991, 2004)
  • 3 Conference tournament titles (1995, 2004, 2005)
  • A record of 351-135 (.722)

I get what you're saying about a brighter view in hindsight, but the "mundane" periods in Eddie's tenure was basically the two years after his first Final Four... when we were "only" a ~20-win NCAA tournament bubble team.

I'd love that sort of "success" right now... :)

Sutton was not without his successes at oswho, there's no denying it, but his record shines especially bright given that he's the only hoops coach to achieve any notable success in Stillwater since the 1950s.

What's more, as far as is known, no players or their families received illicit payments while Sutton was at the helm for the Cowboys. Quite an accomplishment there, given his history.

And perhaps most impressive of all, he resisted the urge to urinate on any elementary schools (or was it a middle school -- I can't remember) for his entire 15-year tenure at oswho (at least I think I have the timeline right -- the urination came after he retired, right?), and that can't have been easy.

Priceless!!!

Truth is OSU basketball has been down since 2006. Eddie's last year was obviously very bad and Sean didn't do much in his years either. OSU fans won't admit it but Ford inherited a very unstable program. I like Ford the guy is a competitor.
