If OU is undefeated at the end of January, do you think attendance will increase for the remaining home games?

Depends on the games I would believe. No all games seem to bring the luster as others do so the crowd unless something else pushes them to come just doesn't show up.

How far has attendance dropped the last couple of years??

These are the figures from 2013-14

Code:
             Games Cumulative Average
Iowa State 17 168,576 9,916
Baylor 22 151,384 6,881
Oklahoma 19 107,015 5,632
Kansas State 14 62,775 4,484
Texas Tech 16 66,047 3,885
Texas 16 54,119 3,382
Oklahoma St. 17 48,261 2,839
West Virginia 15 41,706 2,780
TCU 17 37,233 2,190
Kansas 17 35,751 2,103

I will try to find the previous figures.

These are the attendance figures from 2011-12

Baylor 8,563
Oklahoma 6,851
Texas Tech 6,693
Kansas State 4,069
Texas 3,988
Oklahoma State 2,675

There are a couple missing from this report.

I don't see a significant increase even if we are undefeated, I think it would take a couple of years of excellence and consistent top 12 rankings or better to fill the arena. If recruiting continues to get better, and we land some change-makers, we could be on our way. I think a half filled arena is what will we see until that happens. At least I'll be there!!

Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part but, I sense a bit more excitement about this team than this time last year. Losing Aaryn will hurt but having Ortiz, Maddie, and Peyton is certainly intriguing. If we are undefeated at the end of January I think we will see a few more butts in the seats.

I would like to see the coaches, players, and administration start a social media blitz to help build more interest and excitement.

There should be some increase if they went undefeated in the regular season. However, it should be some time until we see attendance levels as high as they were prior to the arrival of the Thunder. Both men and women's attendance figures have suffered at OU and OSU while the Thunder have been on a roll. Perhaps a post-Durant Thunder in a few years might lead to a downturn in their attendance and the fans would return to the college ranks.

It's naive to think that the attendance at LNC would not increase significantly if OU made it through the month of January undefeated. If the Sooners are unbeaten at that point in the season, they would probably be ranked in the Top 10-15. The excitement among OU fans would likely reach a level that we haven't seen since our last Final Four season.

That's my take, FWIW.

I know several fans who have had season tickets for years who are not renewing this year because they can see most of the games on tv.

The high point was 2007 when average home attendance was 10,437. In 2008 it was 9,007. Has gone down every year since I believe. Go to Big 12 stats.

Am I correct that over the past three years OU has been basically a .500 team once the patsies are left out of account? So I am curious why anyone would think that the team could make it through December undefeated, much less January.

I don't think anyone is saying we will make it to the end of January undefeated as all are using "IF". Is it possible we could go undefeated? Yes. But, it certainly isn't likely. We have to play Kentucky, Texas twice, and W. Virginia twice by February 1st and it will be very tough to win all of those games.

But, if the unlikely were to happen, as Scrybe said, we would likely be ranked in the 10-15 range and I believe more fans would take the time to show up.

I think more fans would take the time to show up, but I'm not sure the numbers would be as high as they were several years ago. But I don't think it has anything to do with the quality of the team on the court. I'll cite an example from my own experience.

I'm only a casual WNBA fan. I go to some of the Shock games in Tulsa. When I go, there are multiple times during the game when I wish I could see an instant replay of a play and the thought crosses my mind that if I had been watching on TV, I would have a better view of the action. I'm not a 'casual' fan of the Sooners so I drive to Norman for as many games as possible. But if I were only a casual fan, I probably wouldn't make the effort - especially since the games are on tv. We didn't have nearly as many games on TV 10 years ago as we have today. Ten years ago, casual fans might make the effort to attend a game in person. I feel like it's less likely today.

We have a solid core of devoted fans who make that extra effort to attend home games. The challenge is to convert the casual fans to devoted fans. In this age when most games are on TV, that's harder than it used to be.

OU used to invite area school kids and let them in with little or no charge (not sure which) but it's my understanding they have gotten away from that. In my opinion, it would help to develop loyal fans when they are young and; hopefully, they will remain passionate fans when they attend OU.

That said, I think winning is the most important element of improving attendance. OU fans are finicky. If you don't win at a high level, even in football, attendance will suffer.
