Hook is the difference......

I don't know what you mean by "team". To me, the best team is the one who can beat the top teams in the NCAA tourney. This one isn't likely to advance past the sweet sixteen, IMO.

The best "team" is the one that can most effectively maximize the potential of its assets. Example: the Miami heat team that the Mavs beat had outstanding individuals, but were beaten by a team.

So, are you saying that you think this team can equal or exceed the final four?

Dense? Of course, this team will win the NBA title because it plays together so much better than the Miami Heat do.

I must be because nothing you have said about best team has made any sense whatsoever.

What (IMO) Syb is trying to say is that this year's group interacts with each other better - plays more as a "team" as opposed to a group of individuals than any group since 2002. I agree with that assessment. That's not to say that this is the most talented group since then, or that they have the best chance for a National Championship. But this year, more than any year since 2002, the whole is more than the sum of the parts.

I have to agree. That 2009-10 final four team has some of the same attributes of this years team. They had Danielle, we have Aaryn. This could be one of Sherri's best coaching jobs of her career. Getting these kids to buy in, working hard to improve each and every week, and facing adverstiy head on and making the best out of a very difficult situation. I always believed that a coach of the year, (especially in conference) should be one that goes above and beyond expectations. If Kim gets coach of the year for the Big XII, there is no justice, because we expected her to win the Big XII, with the loss of four players, probably 3 starters, Sherri has driven the girls to excellence with a short bench and smart play and should be given consideration in my humble opinion. Man I really like this team.

Good luck with that Roc!!! :ez-roll: Mulkey will explode if she's not the COY and Griner's not POY! I see she's enlightening anyone that will listen (or be intimidated!) that "Brittney Griner doesn't foul out!"

Morgan is a very good point guard. I did not think so at the beginning of last year but she has continued to improve. Her decision making has gotten much better as has her passing.

She doesn't look to score as often as I think she should but that is because of how unselfish she is. She is limited in quickness but she usually makes up for it with her basketball smarts.

This is a better team right now than I thought it would be when we lost Maddie and Whitney. That is primarily because of the improvement of Morgan and Sharane. Kornet has also provided a spark off the bench lately. Griffin is playing better although she is still very inconsistent.

When we play tough defense, this is a pretty good basketball team.
I think this is exactly right, especially regarding defense. I've always been a Hook fan. She's not fast or even quick-just steady, steady, steady.

Don't you think she would look really good in a plether straight jacket? Call the boys in the long white coats.:ez-laugh:

Hook is quick enough that no one on OSU's team not named Bias could keep her from wherever she wanted to go.

And as for Coach of the Year, the coaches always avoid controversy by voting for the coach whose team wins the Conference. Coaches can't vote for themselves, so it will be interesting to see who gets Mulkey's vote.

First, Hook is a good player. Second, she has improved, which means she has good practice habits, which in turn means she will probably continue to improve. Third, she is just more experianced.

She is playing really well. Her achilles heel is an athletic high pressure defender, but she is improving her ball handling and judgment under pressure.

it should also be noted that she has really stepped up since we lost whit and maddie.

I think if we finish 2nd, sherri will win coach of the year, not only in conference but possibly -- nationally. She is well liked in coaching circles.

Griner will win, and should win, POY in conference and nationally. She is just in a league by herself.

I think the Sooners will have to make it to the final four before Sherri gets consideration for COY in the Big 12 or nationally.

IIRC, the Conference COY, POY, etc. are picked before the Conference Tournament. If that's true, obviously NCAA tournament performance won't be a consideration.

And that won't be this year. We can't compete with UConn, Baylor, NDame, Stanford and a few more.

I predict a random vote for someone no one else would have voted for as COY. That will be Mulkey's vote.

Then I don't think Sherri will be in the running as Kim will have no loses in conference for the last 2 years and will only have 1 loss nationally in the last 2 years.

Probably Jeff Mittie! He's made from her mold. Stomps around like a spoiled child! Loved it when he was ejected after 2 technical fouls in Norman last year! He ran out on court and stomped those feet after the first technical and and the officials said "See ya!" :ez-roll:

I saw that too. I'm only surprised he didn't claim that it was a "hometown" job.

Seriously, if you don't think there's collusion among women's coaches when it comes to voting for all-conference and coach of the year, I can sell you some swamp-land out by Gallup. I'm really not a UNM women's basketball follower, but I do know that ex-coach Don Flanagan got screwed out of conference coach of the year many times. The now-ex-coach from Utah, Elaine Elliott, was mad at UNM for firing his predecessor. So she formed a little junta that made sure he never got his due from the league. One year, the MWC Coach of the Year was the guy at Wyoming, another one of her former assistants, and he had something like a .500 record that year.

You know Kim would throw a major fit if she didn't get COY, but nothing would make me happier than to see it go to ANYONE else. :)
